Background: The most commonly used adjunct on a cooperative child is the mouth prop. However, the design variation of the mouth props and the possible disadvantages make it difficult to select the appropriate mouth prop. Hence, this study was conducted to evaluate and compare the effectiveness and acceptance of custom-made mouth props with that of commercially available mouth props.
Aim: To evaluate and compare the effectiveness and acceptance of custom-made mouth props with that of commercially available mouth props.
Methodology: A custom-made mouth prop was fabricated that had added advantages of intraoral illumination and customized mouth opening and was used along with three commercially available mouth props on 10 children aged 4 to 10 years who required restorative procedures and were evaluated for their effectiveness based on the response given by the dentists and parents to the questionnaire provided to them. The results were evaluated using the Chi-square test.
Results: The custom-made mouth prop was more acceptable when compared to other available mouth props owing to its property of intraoral illumination, customized mouth opening, and child-friendly design.
Conclusion: The study results concluded that custom-made mouth props can be considered an effective adjunct for mouth opening.

Unlabelled: Antiseptics are widely used in oral healthcare to prevent or treat oral diseases, such as gingivitis and periodontitis. However, the incidence of bacteria being tolerant to standard antiseptics has sharply increased over the last few years. This stresses the urgency for surveillance against tolerant organisms, as well as the discovery of novel antimicrobials.

Context: Postoperative jaw physiotherapy in the form of mouth opening exercises is an integral part of surgical treatment in oral submucous fibrosis and temporomandibular joint ankylosis. The literature has outlined multiple physical therapy modalities and modifications to aid in assisted mouth-opening exercises.
Purpose: To overcome shortcomings associated with the use of conventional devices, the authors describe an innovative use and modification of a prefabricated soft silicone bite block/mouth prop as an adjunct to the devices to aid in achieving optimal mouth opening.

Oral diseases are a burden for developing countries such as India where owing to socioeconomic conditions cost is a factor in selecting the type of treatment. Dental care in India is provided at various levels of care including standalone clinics run by individual dental surgeons, multi-speciality dental centres providing specialist care under one roof including paediatric, prosthodontics, and so on and dental centres affiliated with hospitals having facilities for provision of operation theatre and anaesthesia services. Most dental procedures are performed as day-care procedures requiring local anaesthetics, oral, or moderate intravenous sedation and anxiolytics while maxillofacial procedures are carried out in a controlled operation theatre setting.

Patients with JIA, specifically the polyarticular subtype, may present with temporomandibular joint arthritis. Given the pain typically present in the joint, limitations in opening may be noted. As such, oral health and hygiene practices may be compromised in this patient population.
