Candidaemia in children is associated with high mortality. The epidemiology of Candida bloodstream infection is changing with rising rates of fluconazole resistance worldwide and the emergence of novel multidrug-resistant species such as Candida auris, which is associated with outbreaks. Guidelines on the management of candidaemia emphasise identification of species and determination of antifungal susceptibility to guide appropriate treatment, performing relevant investigations to rule out deep-seated infection, and removal of central venous catheters.

Introduction: In recent decades, Cold Atmospheric Plasma (CAP) has become increasingly popular in healthcare for managing diseases, especially skin cancer. This study aimed to assess the preclinical safety of an indigenously developed dielectric barrier discharge-CAP device and its cytotoxic efficacy against melanoma cells while adhering to OECD 402 guidelines for acute dermal toxicity study. The safety evaluation includes ex vivo studies on mouse peritoneal exudates and in vivo acute dermal toxicity tests on Wistar rats.

The aim of the study was to investigate: 1) the proportion of referrals from primary care to orthopedic consultations that included the information requested by the national guidelines for patients with knee osteoarthritis, and 2) the proportion of referrals that specified whether patients had completed first-line treatment. A total of 140 referrals were examined. None of the referrals adhered fully to the national guidelines, and none included information on whether the patient had completed first-line treatment.
