Background: The purpose of this study was to explore the actual timing of the initiation of advance care planning (ACP) discussions by experienced visiting nurses for older homebound patients.

Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 home visit nurses, followed by a qualitative, inductive analysis.

Results: Four ACP initiation timing patterns were extracted.

Conclusions: Home visit nurses used the following timing patterns differently depending on each patient's situation: "Starting when visiting nurses get to know the patients," "Waiting for a change in the patient's medical condition," "Waiting to begin ACP discussions until the patient and nurse are emotionally ready," and "Starting ACP discussions in a proactive, but non-shocking manner."

Analysis and prediction of addiction among virtual reality users.

PLoS One

March 2025

Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Science, Beihang University, Beijing, China.

Objective: To understand the addiction situation and influencing factors of virtual reality users, and provide reference basis for timely and effective prevention and intervention of user addiction.

Methods: Based on a questionnaire survey, univariate analysis, multivariate analysis, and model prediction were conducted on the data of 1164 participants in VR related Facebook groups and Reddit subedits.

Results: The single factor analysis results show that the user's own attributes, usage duration, perception level, and application types of virtual reality devices can significantly affect the degree of addiction; The results of multivariate analysis showed that the age of users, the number of days used per week, the number of hours used per day, and the perceived level of the device can significantly affect the probability of addiction.

Impacts of spring freeze events on a perennial tree fruit crop across the central and eastern USA.

Int J Biometeorol

March 2025

Department of Geography, Environment and Spatial Sciences, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI, USA.

This study uses a crop simulation model driven by 40 years (1981-2020) of daily gridded meteorological data from PRISM to assess the impacts of spring freeze events on cherry trees, a representative temperate perennial tree-fruit crop, across six regions of the central and eastern USA: the Northern and Southern Great Plains (NGP, SGP), Upper Midwest (UMW), Ohio Valley (OHV), New York-Pennsylvania (NY-PA), and Virginia-North Carolina (VA-NC). Freeze damage exhibits a clear latitudinal gradient, with damage frequency and severity decreasing from south to north. The most frequent and severe damage occurs in the SGP, followed by VA-NC, while the least is observed in the UMW and NY-PA.
