Mandarin oranges are susceptible to senescence and decay, primarily due to postharvest quality loss and fungal infections. This study aim to develop edible and active coatings using carnauba and shellac incorporated with carvacrol nanoemulsion (CNE), and to examine the synergistic effects of the coating on the quality parameters and shelf-life of the mandarin oranges during ambient storage. Nanoemulsion of carvacrol with average droplet size of 348.8 nm was prepared, showing a polydispersity index value of 0.211, showed excellent antifungal activities. Five coating formulations were developed and applied on the mandarin oranges. The coating containing 2 %, /v CNE exhibited the lowest weight loss (19.23 %), maintaining highest firmness (12.06 N), and total soluble solids of 16.1°Brix, and a titratable acidity of 1.56 % even after 30 days of storage. The application of the coating on the mandarin oranges-maintained quality up to 30 days doubling the shelf-life in the ambient.

Removal of azo dyes from aquatic environments represents a global challenge. Herein, by utilizing the waste of mandarin peels as a cellulose source (MP500), a bifunctional adsorbent-photocatalyst, TiO@MP500, has been prepared via a one-pot hydrothermal synthesis. Taking advantage of this dual role, remediation of methyl orange (MO) has been successfully addressed.

Sweet orange is cultivated worldwide but suffers from various devastating diseases because of its monogenetic background. The elucidation of the origin of a crop facilitates the domestication of new crops that may better cope with new challenges. Here we collected and sequenced 226 citrus accessions and assembled telomere-to-telomere phased diploid genomes of sweet orange and sour orange.

Plant-derived exosome-like nanovesicles (PENVs) contain various biomolecules that can be used as delivery cargoes, such as small compounds, small interfering RNAs, DNAs, and recombinant proteins. Edible PENVs are nontoxic, useful for oral administration, and easily prepared in high amounts from a variety of plants, vegetables, and fruits. In this study, we evaluated whether PENVs can be used as delivery cargoes for recombinant vaccine antigens.

Essential oils exhibit antioxidant properties but are prone to oxidative degradation under environmental conditions, making their preservation crucial. Therefore, the purpose of this work was to evaluate the physicochemical properties of nanoencapsulated essential oils (EOs) extracted from the peel of sweet lemon, mandarin, lime, and orange using four formulations of wall materials consisting of gum arabic (GA), maltodextrin (MD), and casein (CAS). The results showed that EOs from sweet lemon, mandarin, lime, and orange showed higher solubility (79.
