Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) is a primary cause of viral diarrhea in neonatal piglets, leading to substantial economic losses in the swine industry globally. It primarily targets epithelial cells of the small intestine, compromising intestinal function and resulting in the death of affected animals. As mitochondria are essential for maintaining gut health, this study investigates the effects of PEDV infection on mitochondrial function in small intestinal epithelial cells and its subsequent impacts.

BackgroundIn cases of surgical necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), the choice between laparotomy (LAP) or comfort care (CC) presents a complex, ethical dilemma. A behavioral artificial intelligence technology (BAIT) decision aid was trained on expert knowledge, providing an output as " percentage of experts advise laparotomy for this patient." This retrospective study aims to compare this output to clinical practice.

These pockets of meconium prevent passage of stool beyond the point of obstruction, which leads to distention of the proximal bowel, bowel wall thickening, and distal microcolon. Occurring most commonly (90%) in conjunction with cystic fibrosis (CF), the occurrence of MI without CF is rare.

Pre-eclampsia (PE) is a multisystem pregnancy disorder characterized by placental and maternal endothelial dysfunction, and affects approximately 5% to 7% of pregnancies worldwide, leading to significant maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Mounting evidence indicates that placental oxidative stress (OS) plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of PE. However, the specific mechanisms associated with OS during the occurrence and progression of PE remain largely unknown.

Amikacin is frequently used for the treatment of neonatal sepsis. The Dutch Pediatric Formulary recommends a complex pharmacokinetic (PK) model-derived dosing regimen, which consists of dosing categories based on postnatal age and weight that results in adequate PK/pharmacodynamic (PK/PD) target attainment. However, a simplified dosing regimen may be easier to apply in clinical practice.
