In cases in which vision cannot be restored and the eye is a source of pain, removal of the eye may be indicated. In mammals, enucleation is the most common procedure performed; however, due to the distinct anatomical features of the avian eye, evisceration may be the preferred method in these species. The large globe size and rigid sclera leave the bird with a large sunken eye socket, which may cause the bird to become unbalanced and is not cosmetically appealing.

Background: Secukinumab is a monoclonal antibody that selectively neutralizes interleukin-17A and has shown efficacy in the treatment of psoriatic arthritis, psoriasis, and axial spondyloarthritis. Its use in non-anterior non-infectious uveitis is controversial, with evidence generally not supporting its effectiveness in these conditions. However, the role of secukinumab in anterior non-infectious uveitis remains unclear.

Acute high intraocular pressure (IOP) induces retinal ischemia/reperfusion (RI/R) that further initiates neuroinflammatory responses. This event can cause retinal tissue damage and neuronal death, ultimately resulting in irreversible blindness worldwide that lacks effective therapies, validated treatment targets and underlying mechanisms. We sought to explore the potential mechanisms on the causal link between the neuroinflammatory response and neurodegeneration following acute high IOP.
