Existing studies qualitatively rather than quantitatively described the influence of the mechanical property parameters of the impacted body on the overload signal characteristic parameters (acceleration peak AP and pulse width PW) of the projectile. The model of the static mechanical property parameters of the impacted body and the overload signal AP and PW of the projectile were developed in this work. The mechanical properties of the impacted body were changed by heat treatment. The maximum relative errors in the AP and PW of the projectiles predicted by the model versus the experimental results were 1.4% and 3.4%, respectively. The maximum relative errors in the AP and PW of the projectiles predicted by the model and simulated by the finite element software were 14.1% and 24.2%, respectively. The effect of heat treatment of the impacted body on the AP of the projectile was explained. It helps to fill the gap in the field of high-speed impact dynamics in terms of model of the mechanical property parameters of the impacted body and the overload signal characteristic parameter of the projectile, and provides a new method for the selection of the material of the impacted body for impact tests.
