Published: March 2025

In order to realize efficient detection of Congo red, fluorescence analytical method were adopted and investigated systematically. Based on the superior properties of papain and excellent performance of copper nanoclusters, papain stabilized copper nanoclusters (Cu NCs@PP) with blue fluorescence were rapidly synthesized via a one-pot method. The spherical Cu NCs@PP uniformly dispersed with an average size of about 2.5 nm and excellent stability. The as-established Cu NCs@PP emitted stronger fluorescence around 436 nm under the excitation wavelength of 358 nm. Under the optimal measurement conditions, the sensitive detection of Congo red was accomplished with linear range of 0.5-160 μM and detection limit of 0.085 μM. In the light of inner filter effect, Cu NCs@PP displayed excellent selectivity in Congo red detection. More importantly, the regular change of fluorescence color made it possible for visualization determination of Congo red. Coupled with satisfactory recovery tests, this as-developed Cu NCs@PP had prospective future in practical application.

This study presents a novel composite superabsorbent hydrogel (SAH) synthesized from nanosilica and polyacrylic acid, demonstrating exceptional efficacy in removing Congo Red dye from wastewater. Utilizing a fast concentration gradient method, we achieved the synthesis of nanosilica with a high specific surface area of 380 m/g, a total pore volume of 0.81 cm/g, and a mean pore diameter of 17 nm.

Article Synopsis
  • Mansonella perstans is a filarial parasite endemic to sub-Saharan Africa with inconsistent treatment protocols and unclear effectiveness, prompting a study to analyze the presence of Wolbachia in its samples.
  • The study analyzed 19 samples from patients infected with M. perstans from various West African countries, finding that 74% contained Wolbachia, with some countries having Wolbachia detected for the first time.
  • Results indicated that the presence of Wolbachia could influence treatment strategies, specifically suggesting that doxycycline could be effective, although discrepancies in sample results may point to technical challenges or the existence of different M. perstans populations.

China Medical University, Department of Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology, 14th Floor, Lifu Teaching Building, No. 91, Xue-Shi Road, North District, Taichung, Taiwan, Taiwan, 404333;

The necrotrophic pathogen produces a host-selective toxin to attack its host plants. This study characterized the crucial function of the Mip1/RAPTOR ortholog (AaMip1) in toxin production and autophagy formation. AaMip1 physically interacts with the Target of Rapamycin (Tor) protein.

Noncovalent Complex Modulated Fabrication of COF Membrane for Organic Solvent Nanofiltration.

March 2025

Joint School of National University of Singapore and Tianjin University, International Campus of Tianjin University, Binhai New City, Fuzhou, 350207, China.

Covalent organic framework (COF) has been recognized as a disruptive material for fabricating organic molecular sieve membranes. Acquiring crystalline and defect-free COF membranes directly on polymeric substrates is important for practical applications yet is highly challenging. In this study, a noncovalent complex (NCX) modulated fabrication of COF membrane on hydrolyzed polyacrylonitrile (HPAN) substrate via counter diffusion is proposed.
