Extracellular ATP (exATP) and its receptors play important roles in the regulation of the responses of plants to environmental stimulation. The lectin receptor kinases I.9 (P2K1) and I.5 (P2K2) are known as the receptors of exATP in Arabidopsis thaliana. The change of stomata aperture can show adaptive relationships to the environmental conditions surrounding the plant. However, when plants are exposed to local environmental stimuli, whether the exATP level has the systemic characteristic change and regulates stomata aperture by binding its receptors is still poorly studied. The present work showed that local environmental stimuli (including wounding, high light stress, dark-to-light transition and heat stress) in Arabidopsis thaliana triggered an increase of exATP level not only in the local leaf but also in the systemic leaves. By using p2k1 single-mutant, p2k2 single-mutant, and p2k1/p2k2 double-mutant plants, it was found that the local environmental stimuli-induced stomatal response was weakened or attenuated not only in the local leaf but also in systemic leaves in P2Ks mutants. These results indicate that exATP/P2Ks are involved in regulating local and systemic stomatal responses to local environmental stimuli.

Herein, a novel and simple electrospray (ES) printing technique was developed for the fabrication of ultrathin graphene layers with precisely controlled nanometer-scale thickness, where graphene oxide (GO) was electrosprayed on wafers and subsequently chemically reduced into reduced GO (rGO). Utilizing that technique, we prepared ultrathin rGO in-plane graphene field-effect transistor (GFET)-based biosensors coupled with a portable prototype measuring system for point-of-care detection of pathogens. We illustrate the use of such prepared GFETs to detect COVID-19, using the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid protein antigen (N-protein) and genomic viral RNA as detection targets.

Describing the crystal structure of disordered materials with mixed-occupancy crystallographic sites is essential for understanding their physicochemical properties and designing new materials tuned to their targeted functionalities. Here, we investigate the structure of RbMOF (M = Nb, Ta) pyrochlore-type oxyfluorides using a multimodal approach that combines experimental and computational techniques. Rietveld structural refinement of powder X-ray powder diffraction (PXRD) data confirmed that these oxyfluorides are isostructural, and their average crystal structure is disordered.

The Golfão Maranhense is an extensive estuarine complex that provides nursery grounds and other habitats for several fish species, as well as a wealth of resources for the coastal and estuarine artisanal fisheries of the Maranhão state, in northern Brazil. The present study provides a comprehensive inventory of marine and estuarine teleost fishes of the Golfão Maranhense based on field samplings, analyses of voucher specimens from local collections and literature data. This inventory presents a total of 163 species of teleosts belonging to 107 genera, 57 families and 27 orders.

Territorial responses by North American red squirrels (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus) to conspecifics vary seasonally with peaks during mating and dispersal periods. Broadcast of squirrel vocalizations during surveys may elicit territorial defense behaviors such as calling and movement that make individuals more available for detection, with implications for subsequent occupancy and abundance analyses. We examined the effect of vocalization broadcasts on detection probability during point counts throughout a 14-month period at two locations (year-round study) and during two summers at a third location (summer-only study) on Newfoundland, Canada.
