Food allergy has had a rapid rise in prevalence, and thus it is important to identify approaches to limit the development of food allergy early in life. Because maternal dietary supplementation with α-tocopherol (α-T), an isoform of vitamin E, during pregnancy and nursing increases neonate plasma levels of α-T and can limit neonate development of other allergies, we hypothesized that α-T can limit development of food allergy. To assess this, male mice with mutations in their skin barrier genes (FT-/- mice) were mated with wild-type females that received a diet supplemented with α-tocopherol or a control diet.

Background: Caudal brainstem dysfunction associated with Chiari malformation type II (CM-II) is an important source of morbidity and mortality in neonates with myelomeningocele (MMC).

Observations: Prenatal MMC repair has been shown to improve or even completely reverse the extent of hindbrain herniation (HH) associated with CM-II as well as reduce the incidence of hydrocephalus requiring CSF diversion, possibly leading to a reduction in CM-II-related symptoms in these children. Urgent CSF diversion and potential CM-II decompression surgery are typically the preferred treatments for infants demonstrating caudal brainstem dysfunction, although contemporary reports have described a decreased need for both CSF diversionary surgery and CM-II decompression following prenatal MMC repair.

Background: Overweight and obesity in pregnancy are associated with health risks for women and babies. Providing effective weight management during pregnancy is necessary to support appropriate gestational weight gain and improve outcomes for women and their infants. This study aimed to synthesise evidence documenting healthcare-related barriers and enablers for weight management among pregnant women with overweight or obesity in English-speaking high-income countries.

Most multicystic dysplastic kidneys (MCDKs) are detected prenatally, yet there is no clear consensus on initial evaluation and follow-up. We report the case of a 4-year-old male diagnosed with right pyelocalyceal dilation in utero, confirmed postnatally as MCDK. Follow-up ultrasounds revealed rapid growth of three upper pole cysts, reaching 8 cm.
