Despite advancements in medicine, drug-induced liver injury continues to pose regulatory and clinical challenges. Ferulic acid, a naturally occurring polyphenol found in vegetables, fruits, and grains, has gained attention for its therapeutic properties. We report the hepatoprotective effects of ferulic acid against a range of pharmaceuticals and toxic compounds. Given the growing interest in natural hepatoprotective compounds, further research is essential to elucidate ferulic acid's role in liver protection.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Guanxin II, proposed by Chen Keji (National master of traditional Chinese medicine), possesses cerebral-protective effect. Interestingly, its simplified prescription Danshen-Chuanxiong-Honghua (DCH) can also clinically ameliorate cerebral impairment and improve spatial cognitive deficits, similar to original formula's function.
Aim Of The Study: We aimed to elucidate the rationality of DCH's natural existence, qualitatively identify DCH-derived phytochemicals, thereby validate cerebral protective effect, and expose potential mechanism of DCH and its main absorbed compound ferulic acid (FA).

In this study, we investigated the non-covalent interaction mechanism between rice protein (RP) and three polyphenols with different concentrations (ferulic acid FA, gallic acid GA, and tannic acid TA) and their effects on the structure and emulsion stability of the proteins. Hydrophobic forces dominated the binding of RP to the polyphenols, and the reaction was heat-absorbing. The three polyphenols are bound to RP in the form of static quenching to form a non-covalent complex, and during the binding process, the RP provides one binding site.

Psoriasis, an immune-mediated chronic inflammatory skin disorder, poses challenges for topical treatment due to the thickening of the stratum corneum, hindering drug penetration. Despite the recognized neuroprotective benefits of curcumin, its clinical utility is constrained by poor bioavailability and high cytotoxicity at effective doses. This study evaluates the therapeutic potential of curcumin-derived carbon quantum dots (Cur-CQDs) for retinal protection against ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury in rats. Cur-CQDs were synthesized mild pyrolysis at varying temperatures and assessed for efficacy in rat retinal ganglion cells and a model of retinal IR injury.

Cutaneous tissue is one of the main targets of outdoor stressors, and nowadays, the effect of pollution on skin conditions and premature skin ageing has been well correlated, although the exact effect that different pollutants have on the skin has not been well defined, especially when compared to other stressors. Among the air pollutants, UV radiation and particulate matter (PM) have been found among the most aggressive in terms of skin damage, inducing oxinflammatory responses, promoting degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) components, and compromising the cutaneous defensive barrier. Topical application of technologies able to prevent oxidative damage is still one of the best approaches to protect our skin, and considering the well-known antioxidant network, application of an antioxidant mixture is more recommended than a single compound.
