Transport networks spanning the entire body of an organism are key infrastructures for achieving a functional system and facilitating the distribution of nutrients and signals. The large amoeba-like organism has gained attention as a useful model for studying biological transport networks owing to its visible and rapidly adapting vein structure. Using particle-tracking velocimetry, we measured the flow velocity of protoplasmic streaming over the entire body of plasmodia during the development of its intricate vein network. Based on these measurements, we estimated how the protoplasm is transported and mixed throughout the body. Our findings suggest that the vein network significantly enhances effective mixing of the protoplasm throughout the organism, which may have important physiological implications for nutrient distribution and signaling.

Background: Acceptance and commitment therapy provides a psychobehavioral framework feasible for digital and hybrid weight loss interventions. In face-to-face studies, group-based interventions yield more favorable outcomes than individual interventions, but the effect of the intervention form has not been studied in combination with eHealth.
Objective: This study investigated whether a minimal, 3-session group or individual enhancement could provide additional benefits compared to an eHealth-only intervention when assessing weight, body composition, and laboratory metrics in a sample of occupational health patients with obesity.

Previous studies introduced an avatar body control sharing system known as "virtual co-embodiment," where control over bodily movements and external events, or agency, of a single avatar is shared among multiple individuals. However, how this virtual co-embodiment experience influences users' perception of agency, both explicitly and implicitly, and the extent to which they are willing to take responsibility for successful or failed outcomes, remains an imminent problem. In this research, we addressed this issue using: (1) explicit agency questionnaires, (2) implicit intentional binding (IB) effect, (3) responsibility attribution measured through financial gain/loss distribution, and (4) interview to evaluate this experience where agency over the right hand's fingers was fully transferred to a human partner.

Obesity is a highly prevalent chronic multisystem disease associated with shortened life expectancy due to a number of adverse health outcomes. Epidemiological data link body weight and parameters of central fat distribution to an increasing risk for type 2 diabetes, hypertension, fatty liver diseases, cardiovascular diseases including myocardial infarction, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, stroke, obstructive sleep apnoea, osteoarthritis, mental disorders and some types of cancer. However, the individual risk to develop cardiometabolic and other obesity-related diseases cannot entirely be explained by increased fat mass.
