Pediatric major thoracic vascular trauma is a rare occurrence, with the majority of cases being related to blunt trauma to the chest. We present a hybrid management of a 13-year-old boy who was stabbed with a knife, resulting in an injury to the descending thoracic aorta. The patient was managed using a thoracic endovascular aortic repair technique (using a 24 mm × 82 mm iliac limb stent). There were no major complications encountered intraoperatively or postoperatively.

Mechanical expansion and contraction of pores within photosynthetic organisms regulate a series of processes that are necessary to manage light absorption, control gas exchange, and regulate water loss. These pores, known as stoma, allow the plant to maximize photosynthetic output depending on environmental conditions such as light intensity, humidity, and temperature by actively changing the size of the stomal opening. Despite advances in artificial photosynthetic systems, little is known about the effect of such mechanical actuation in synthetic materials where chemical reactions occur.

Maintaining Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI) standards within a complex healthcare system presents unique challenges. This case study from a regional perinatal center in the northeast United States details the design and implementation of a program to address BFHI Step 2, which requires ongoing competency assessment and team member training to ensure breastfeeding support. The shift of BFHI competencies to continuous professional development introduced logistical challenges, compounded by staff turnover and budget constraints.

Heart disease is a leading cause of mortality worldwide, making accurate early detection essential for effective treatment and management. This study introduces a novel hybrid machine-learning approach that combines transfer learning using the VGG16 convolutional neural network (CNN) with various machine-learning classifiers for heart disease detection. A conditional tabular generative adversarial network (CTGAN) was employed to generate synthetic data samples from actual datasets; these were evaluated using statistical metrics, correlation analysis, and domain expert assessments to ensure the quality of the synthetic datasets.

Introduction: Children with congenital lung disease (CLD) may suffer from long-term complications, such as impairments in lung growth, decreased total lung volume, recurrent lower respiratory tract infections and, in some cases, malignant transformation.
Objective And Methods: we described retrospective data on diagnostic process, clinical and functional data regarding a cohort of symptomatic and asymptomatic children with CLD followed in a single third level center in the last twenty years.
Results: 91 children were included in the study.
