Graduate students play a pivotal role in advancing science, education, and extension, particularly in the field of animal and dairy sciences. As expectations on faculty productivity rise, effective mentoring becomes crucial for shaping future professionals and supporting institutional goals. This article emphasizes the distinction between academic advisors and mentors, arguing that while advisors guide short-term academic objectives, mentors foster long-term personal and career development. It highlights the importance of providing both roles within graduate programs and training faculty to be effective mentors. Structured mentorship programs, supported by tools like Individual Development Plans and mentor-mentee compacts, can improve student satisfaction and reduce attrition rates. The article highlights how the growing transition of Ph.D. holders from academia to industry underscores the need for graduate programs to integrate transferable skills into the curriculum. Additionally, intercultural competence and technological proficiency, particularly in artificial intelligence, are identified as essential for students' success in a globalized job market. These efforts also contribute to the long-term success of academic institutions by modernizing graduate programs to prioritize flexible, student-centered mentoring, which prepares highly skilled and highly sought-after graduates who drive innovation and advance research and development in their fields, while also keeping these programs relevant and attractive to employers in a rapidly changing career landscape.

The life cycle of effector T cells is determined by signals downstream of the T cell receptor (TCR) that induce activation and proinflammatory activity, or death as part of the process to resolve inflammation. We recently reported that T cell myeloid differentiation primary response 88 (MyD88) tunes down TCR activation and limits T cell survival in the cardiac and tumor inflammatory environments, in contrast to its proinflammatory role in myeloid cells upon toll-like receptor (TLR) recognition of pathogen- and damage-associated molecular patterns. Introduction: Since 2020, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) have collaborated to link the AAOS Orthopaedic In-Training Examination (OITE) and the ABOS part I Certification Examination, allowing the identification of a minimum score on each annual OITE that corresponds to a minimum passing part I score. The purpose of this study is to assess the performance of this examination linking over these past 3 years.
Methods: From 2020 to 2022, the AAOS provided each graduating resident's OITE score; from 2021 to 2023, the ABOS provided each examinee's ABOS part I pass-fail result.

Natural killer (NK) cells express activating receptors that signal through ITAM (immunoreceptor tyrosine-based activation motif)-bearing adapter proteins. The phosphorylation of each ITAM creates binding sites for SYK and ZAP70 protein tyrosine kinases to propagate downstream signaling including the induction of Ca2+ influx. While all immature and mature human NK cells coexpress SYK and ZAP70, clonally driven memory or adaptive NK cells can methylate SYK genes, and signaling is mediated exclusively using ZAP70.
