The Visayan Spotted Deer (VSD), or , is an endangered and endemic species in the Philippines. Despite its status, genomic information on , and the genus in general, is missing. This study presents the first draft genome assembly of the VSD using the Illumina short-read sequencing technology. The resulting RusAlf_1.1 assembly has a 2.52 Gb total length, with a contig N50 of 46 Kb and scaffold N50 size of 75 Mb. The assembly has a BUSCO complete score of 95.5%, demonstrating the genome's completeness, and includes the annotation of 24,531 genes. Our phylogenetic analysis based on single-copy orthologs revealed a close evolutionary relationship between and the genus . RusAlf_1.1 represents a significant advancement in our understanding of the VSD. It opens opportunities for further research in population genetics and evolutionary biology, potentially contributing to more effective conservation and management strategies for this endangered species.

Aims/hypothesis: Components of the insulin processing and secretion pathways remain incompletely understood. Here, we examined a genome-wide association study (GWAS) signal for plasma proinsulin levels. Lead GWAS variant rs150781447-T encodes an Arg279Cys substitution in TBC1 domain family member 30 (TBC1D30), but no role for this protein in insulin processing or secretion has been established previously.

We present the description of the new species, , found during phylogenomic investigations of a global collection of strains identified as () . Strain PAM 2766 was isolated from horse-breeding farm soil in Normandy, France, and was indistinguishable from based on the usual identification tests. Whole-genome phylogenetic analyses located PAM 2766 in the same sublineage as , together with , , , , and .

Lactic acid bacteria play a crucial role in fermented food production and serve as important sources of antimicrobial peptides. This study reports four lactic acid bacteria strains isolated from fermented chicken meat, which harbor biosynthetic gene clusters encoding antimicrobial compounds. These strains are classified within the genera and .
