Osteoarthritis of the first carpometacarpal joint causes pain and hand function impairment. Pain reduction and preservation or improvement in the thumb motion are the main treatment aims. Surgery is indicated in cases recalcitrant to conservative treatment. Trapeziectomy is the most popular surgical treatment choice. Arthroscopic trapeziectomy is gaining popularity because of its advantage of minimally invasive surgery. Classically, the arthroscopic procedure is performed under continuous traction with a traction tower. Recently, the technique of arthroscopic trapeziectomy without a traction tower has been reported. The purpose of this Technical Note is to describe the details of refining this technique by performing arthroscopic trapeziectomy with a 4-mm arthroscope and without a traction tower. This has the advantage of more effective bone resection.

Osteoarthritis of the scaphotrapeziotrapezoidal joint is frequent but often pain-free or well tolerated with non-surgical treatment. Surgical options are numerous and none seems to have clear evidence of superiority. In addition to well-established procedures, such as scaphotrapeziotrapezoidal joint arthrodesis, distal scaphoid resection and trapeziectomy, more recent surgical techniques have been reported.

Thumb carpometacarpal (CMC) arthritis is a painful and debilitating condition, which in severe cases may be treated by surgery. Previous studies have emphasised the importance of rehabilitation following surgery to achieve optimal results. This study aimed to investigate whether intensive hand therapy is effective in improving hand functions after arthroscopic partial trapeziectomy with suture-button (SB) suspensionplasty in patients with thumb CMC arthritis.

Methods: Four databases were searched for studies presenting pain outcomes following surgical intervention for BTJA. Pain scores were reported using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and compared against the pre-established threshold for Minimal Clinically Important Difference (MCID) of 1.

Background: The purpose of this individual cohort study is to demonstrate safety and efficacy in removing the trapezium through minimally invasive arthroscopy.
Methods: A prospective case series was performed on all arthroscopic total trapeziectomy procedures for thumb basal joint arthrosis between 2018 and 2022. Patients were followed for up to 1 year.
