The Motor Cognitive Dual-Task (MCDT) protocols have experienced a positive impact due to the increasing accessibility of new technologies for gait assessment. This study proposes the adoption of a novel hybrid system composed of wearable sensors and a Socially Assistive Robot (SAR) for gait assessment using MCDT protocols, i.e. GaitObserver. The results reveal statistically significant differences between simple gait and dual-task gait performances in parameters such as the number of steps (p < 0.01), step length (p < 0.01), stride phase time (p = 0.02), and the ratio between the average right and left stride time (p = 0.02). By using the proposed system, the authors managed to obtain data from the temporal (inertial data) and spatial domains (laser data), allowing for a more comprehensive and ecologically valid assessment of gait performance in the MCDT protocol.

Article Synopsis
  • This study explores a new approach for differentiating between older adults with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and those who are Cognitively Normal Adults (CNA) using innovative Motor and Cognitive Dual-Task (MCDT) protocols.
  • The researchers found that new MCDT models, particularly those involving heel tapping exercises, outperformed the traditional walking-based MCDT in classification accuracy by +8%.
  • The results indicate that lower-difficulty motor tasks may more effectively identify cognitive issues, suggesting that integrating innovative digital tools and data analysis methods could enhance early dementia detection and streamline clinical assessments.

Transcatheter aortic valve implantation is a procedure in the context of non-suitable for open surgery. Measurements of aortic root width, aortic valve surface area, and measurements of the aortic tree, coronary vessels, femoral, and subclavian arteries are of critical importance. In the TAVI procedure, the dimensions of the valve to be placed on the patient are determined by the computed tomography method.

Motor and Cognitive Dual-Task (MCDT) represents an innovative chance to assess Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI). We compare two novel MCDTs, fore-finger tapping (FTAP), toe-tapping (TTHP), to gold standards for cognitive screening (Mini-Mental State Examination-MMSE), and to a well-established MCDT (GAIT). We administered the aforementioned MCDTs to 44 subjects (MCIs and controls).

Dementia and Alzheimer's Disease (AD) represent a health emergency. The identification of valid and noninvasive markers to identify people with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is profoundly advocated. This review outlines the use of quantitative Motor and Cognitive Dual-Task (MCDT) on MCI, by technologies aid.
