A tracking and monitoring system for transplanted organs during the transport phase. | LitMetric

Modern medicine has recognized organ and tissue transplantation as one of the most outstanding and promising advances. However, the demand for tissues and organs to be transplanted far exceeds the available supply. Due to this growing need, the problems inherent to the transplantation process have been pointed out in recent years. Among them, the damage suffered during the preservation phase and the lack of follow-up of the organ during the transport phase stand out. These issues are associated with loss of fully functional organs and an impact on the availability of organs for transplantation. In this work we propose a solution with the aim of improving the transport and preservation process: a system capable of acquiring organ status variables and establishing communication with the clinical staff associated with the transplant is developed. It consists of a refrigerator, which keeps the organ cold, incorporating a device that evaluates the internal temperature of the organ, supplies it with preservation liquid, detects the device geolocation and verifies correct sealing. The software has been designed to communicate with a web server created to store and visualize the information collected. A database and a restricted access web platform have been implemented to allow a complete knowledge of the organ status in a universal way by the clinical staff.
