Neurological conditions like Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), and strokes significantly contribute to disability worldwide and are the major cause of balance disorders. The TeleRehaB Decision Support System (DSS) is a clinical tool that uses artificial intelligence and wearable and IoT devices to improve telerehabilitation for balance disorders patients. It evaluates prognostic factors, therapeutic efficacy, patient outcomes, and potential adverse effects, and customizes rehabilitation plans based on factors like disorder type, intervention intensity, technology utilization, and patient compliance. The results showed strong positive correlations, especially in two-way tasks, indicating advanced predictive capabilities.Clinical Relevance-The study introduces a new approach to managing balance disorders, particularly neurological deficits, using AI and wearable technologies. This system improves balance and gait analysis precision, offering personalized rehabilitation plans, potentially leading to better outcomes and cost-effectiveness.

Analysis and prediction of addiction among virtual reality users.

PLoS One

March 2025

Institute for Advanced Studies in Humanities and Social Science, Beihang University, Beijing, China.

Objective: To understand the addiction situation and influencing factors of virtual reality users, and provide reference basis for timely and effective prevention and intervention of user addiction.

Methods: Based on a questionnaire survey, univariate analysis, multivariate analysis, and model prediction were conducted on the data of 1164 participants in VR related Facebook groups and Reddit subedits.

Results: The single factor analysis results show that the user's own attributes, usage duration, perception level, and application types of virtual reality devices can significantly affect the degree of addiction; The results of multivariate analysis showed that the age of users, the number of days used per week, the number of hours used per day, and the perceived level of the device can significantly affect the probability of addiction.

Probiotics ameliorates hypothalamic amenorrhea in a rat model of PCOS.

Metab Brain Dis

March 2025

Cardio/Endo-Metabolic and Epigenetics Research Unit, Department of Physiology, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, 360101, Nigeria.

Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrinometabolic disorder affecting women of reproductive age, characterized by hormonal imbalances, irregular menstrual cycles, and often, infertility. Hypothalamic amenorrhea, a condition marked by the cessation of menstruation due to disruptions in the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, is a frequent manifestation in PCOS. Probiotics, beneficial microorganisms known for improving metabolic health, have shown promise in restoring hormonal balance and enhancing fertility.

Introduction: There is a move towards engaging people with lived experience and families (PWLE/F)-also referred to as PWLE/F engagement-in mental health and/or substance use research. However, PWLE/F engagement is inadequately reported on in mental health and/or substance use research papers.

Objective: To understand what PWLE/F and researchers perceive are important components to report on related to engagement in mental health and/or substance use research.

Background: Experience-Based Co-Design (EBCD) is a popular collaborative process where service users and healthcare providers share their experiences of using and delivering services to identify ways to adapt services to enhance those experiences.

Objective: This study aimed to identify enablers and barriers to the successful implementation of EBCD as part of Ireland's recently adopted Enhanced Community Care (ECC) programme.

Design: Service users and staff at two sites (N = 17) participated in an accelerated EBCD process designed to enhance service provision for older people and those living with chronic conditions.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) convey complex signals between cells that can be used to promote neuronal plasticity and neurological recovery in brain disease models. These EV signals are multimodal and context-dependent, making them unique therapeutic principles. This review analyzes how EVs released from various cell sources control neuronal metabolic function, neuronal survival and plasticity.
