The independent manipulation of light across multiple wavelength bands provides new opportunities for optical security. Although dual-band optical encryption methods in the visible (VIS) and infrared bands have been developed, achieving synchronized and synergistic optical security across the VIS, midwave infrared (MWIR), and long-wave infrared (LWIR) bands remains a significant challenge. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a triband metasurface that covers the VIS, MWIR, and LWIR bands. While VIS imaging is achieved by structural color, MWIR, and LWIR imaging are achieved by selective emissivity structures, with MWIR/LWIR emissivities in the MWIR imaging region of 0.81/0.17, and in the LWIR imaging region of 0.21/0.83. Importantly, the MWIR and LWIR information is completely hidden in the VIS band. We also validate the ability of metasurface to encode complex information and information-misleading encryption. This work introduces new approaches for enhancing optical security and holds significant potential for applications such as anticounterfeiting and thermal camouflage.

The formation of ice due to global climate change poses challenges across multiple industries. Traditional anti-icing technologies often suffer from low efficiency, high energy consumption, and environmental pollution. Photothermal and hydrophobic surfaces with nano-micro structures (PHS-NMSs) offer innovative solutions to these challenges due to their exceptional optical absorption, heat conversion capabilities, and unique surface water hydrophobic characteristics.

Monochromatic Responsive HOF Heterostructures via VIA-Group-Based Framework Hybridization for Fully-Covert Photonic Barcode.

Adv Mater

March 2025

Fujian Provincial Key Laboratory of Polymer Materials, College of Chemistry and Materials Science, Fujian Normal University, Fuzhou, 350007, China.

Luminescent responsive heterostructures with region-domained emission and integrated responsiveness exhibit great potential in information security, but always suffer from the direct exposure of fingerprint information at the initial state, making it easy to decode the hidden confidential information. Herein, the first monochromatic responsive hydrogen-bonded organic framework (HOF) heterostructures are reported based on VIA-group-based framework hybridization toward fully-covert photonic barcodes. Designed HOF blocks with different VIA-group elements are integrated via a configuration-assimilation-based assembly method to generate the intrinsic monochromatic HOF heterostructures.

Relative biological effectiveness of 31 meV thermal neutrons in peripheral blood lymphocytes.

Radiat Prot Dosimetry

March 2025

Radiobiology and Health Branch, Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, 286 Plant Rd, Chalk River, ON K0J 1J0, Canada.

The reported relative biological effectiveness (RBE) for thermal neutrons has a large range (5-51, for cytogenetic endpoints), which can confound radiation protection decision-making. To determine whether thermal neutron spectra can influence RBE, the RBE of reactor-derived thermal neutrons of average energy 31 meV was evaluated in human peripheral blood lymphocytes using two classical DNA double-strand break endpoints: the dicentric chromosome assay (DCA) and the cytokinesis-block micronucleus assay. Dose-response curves for 41 to 408 mGy revealed a preference for linear regression.
