The aim of this study was to evaluate the short-term efficacy of single-anastomosis duodeno-ileostomy with sleeve gastrectomy (SADI-S) using a 400-cm common limb in Chinese patients with obesity of low BMI (<35 kg/m²) and type 2 diabetes (T2D). Sixteen patients who underwent SADI-S between June 2022 and November 2023 were retrospectively analyzed and evaluated at 6 and 12 months postoperatively. The primary outcome was the rate of diabetes remission (HbA1c < 6.5% without antidiabetic medications for ≥ 3 months). Secondary outcomes included excess and total weight loss (EWL and TWL) and nutritional deficiencies. At 12 months postoperatively, 80% of patients achieved diabetic remission, with mean HbA1c decreasing from 8.84 ± 1.55 to 5.93 ± 0.74%. Mean BMI decreased from 30.64 ± 2.29 to 22.91 ± 2.33 kg/m², and EWL and TWL reached 122.12% ± 44.43% and 25.01% ± 8.02%, respectively. Nutritional status remained stable with no cases of hypoalbuminemia and fewer iron and vitamin deficiencies. SADI-S with a 400-cm common limb was effective in achieving glycemic control and weight loss while reducing the risk of nutritional deficiencies in Chinese patients with obesity of low BMI and T2D.

Objectives: the impact of handgrip strength (HGS) on postoperative complications and long-term survival following hepatectomy in patients with primary liver cancer (PLC) remains unclear. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of HGS on postoperative complications and overall survival in patients with PLC.

Methods: in total, 298 patients with PLC who underwent liver resection were included in the prospective cohort study.

Immunotherapy has brought better survival benefits in the treatment of recurrent or metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (R/M HNSCC). However, owing to the lack of relevant biomarkers that could predict the efficacy of this treatment, it often has to be maintained. Here we report on a patient with stage IVA squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue who developed an unresectable lesion in the neck after surgery and radical chemoradiotherapy.

Background: Treatment of hypopharyngeal carcinoma involves surgery, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. The combination of docetaxel, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil as a standard induction chemotherapy regimen allows enhanced laryngeal preservation after surgery. In this study, our objective was to retrospectively analyze the short-term efficacy and adverse events of nab-paclitaxel plus cisplatin or nedaplatin plus tegafur/gimeracil/oteracil as an induction chemotherapy regimen for hypopharyngeal cancer.

Introduction: Brain network dysfunction, particularly within the default mode network (DMN), is an increasingly apparent contributor to the clinical progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) can target key DMN hubs, maintain signaling function, and delay or improve clinical outcomes in AD. Here, we present the rationale and design of a study using off-the-shelf equipment and the latest clinical evidence to expand on prior rTMS work and reduce participant burden in the process.

Insights into the magnitude and performance of an economy are crucial, with the growth rate of real GDP frequently used as a key indicator of economic health, highlighting the importance of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Additionally, remittances have drawn considerable global interest in recent years, particularly in The Gambia. This study introduces an innovative model, a hybrid of recurrent neural network and long-short-term memory (RNN-LSTM), to predict GDP growth based on remittance inflows in The Gambia.
