The levels of ceruloplasmin in the serum of blood taken from the veins of the back side of the foot were determined in 66 patients with the radicular syndrome of lumbar osteochondritis and in 7 normal subjects (control). In the patients, the level of ceruloplasmin was significantly elevated, especially on the side of the pain syndrome and, hence, Lasegue's sign was also more pronounced. In patients without pain lateralization, an increase in ceruloplasmin levels was symmetrical. In a protracted course of the pain syndrome and at the end of the treatment the ceruloplasmin concentrations were decreased.

A 78-years-old man was treated for asthma and pansinusitis for >5 years, and mepolizumab was initiated two years previously. Two months after the cessation of mepolizumab treatment, the asthma symptoms worsened and acute progressive muscle weakness and sensory disturbance developed. Pancreatic duct (PD) strictures, leaks, and disconnected ducts are important morphologic consequences of inflammatory disease of the pancreas, resulting in abdominal pain, pancreatic ascites, pancreatic pleural effusion, and external pancreatic fistula. Traditionally, these PD complications were treated surgically, but a better understanding of their pathophysiology, along with advancement in endoscopic interventions, has transformed the therapy from morbid surgical interventions to minimally invasive, safe, and effective endoscopic treatment. This review discusses the current diagnostic and management strategies for PD strictures, leaks, and disconnected pancreatic ducts.

Background: There is limited knowledge about long-term mortality, care pathways and health-related quality of life (HrQoL) among intensive care unit (ICU) patients receiving prolonged mechanical ventilation (PMV).
Research Question: What are the long-term mortality, care pathways, and HrQoL of patients receiving invasive PMV, stratified by weaning success?
Study Design: and methods: We conducted a secondary analysis of patients from the cluster-randomised controlled Enhanced Recovery after Intensive Care trial who were treated in two ICU clusters and received invasive PMV (≥21 days via endotracheal tube/tracheostomy or ≥four days via tracheostomy). Data on weaning success, mortality, care place transitions, readmissions, and HrQoL were collected for six months after ICU discharge.
