Here, we present novel high quality genome assemblies for five invasive tephritid species of agricultural concern: , , , and (read depths between 65 and 78x). Three assemblies ( , and ) were scaffolded with chromosome conformation data and annotated using RNAseq reads. For some species this is the first reference genome available ( , and ), for others we have published improved annotated genomes ( and ). Together, the new references provide an important resource to advance research on genetic techniques for population control, develop rapid species identification methods, and explore eco-evolutionary studies.

The increasing global spread of cyanobacteria and their toxin Cylindrospermopsin (CYN) is a growing concern. This study aimed to examine the toxic effects of CYN on the early neurodevelopment of zebrafish, and to identify the underlying mechanisms. The findings indicated that zebrafish exposed to varying concentrations of CYN exhibited general developmental toxicity, including typical malformations, diminished embryonic movement, and shortened body length.

Study of feed intake rate as a physiological biomarker in Nile Tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus 1758) under Chlorpyrifos and Cypermethrin exposure.

Sci Total Environ

March 2025

Department of Zoology, Vivekananda Mahavidyalaya, Haripal, Hooghly 712405, West Bengal, India. Electronic address:

Chlorpyrifos and cypermethrin are the two most extensively applied insecticides in agricultural areas across the world and are found to contaminate adjacent water bodies, posing risks to non-target aquatic organisms, including fish. Aquaculture is primarily concerned with the feeding and growth of fish. This study evaluated the effects of sub-lethal concentrations of chlorpyrifos and cypermethrin on the physiological biomarker 'feed intake rate' of Oreochromis niloticus through 96 h static renewal bioassays.

Impacts of continuous irrigation using treated municipal wastewater on rice-soil systems: A three-year study.

Sci Total Environ

March 2025

Faculty of Agriculture, Yamagata University, 1-23 Wakaba-machi, Tsuruoka, Yamagata 997-8555, Japan. Electronic address:

Research on the effects of rice fertigation using treated municipal wastewater (TWW) as the sole source of nutrients and irrigation water remains limited. This study examined the impact of continuous TWW irrigation on rice-soil systems across three years (2021-2023), focusing on soil health, plant growth and yield, and the mineral and toxic element composition of rice grains. Forage rice cultivation using TWW fertigation (test field) was compared with conventional cultivation using chemical fertilisers and canal water (control field).

How concerned should we be about broiler breeder fertility declines?

Poult Sci

March 2025

Department of Poultry Science, 2472 TAMU, 101 Kleberg Center, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, 77843. Electronic address:

Broiler breeder fertility is the bedrock on which modern broiler production rests. Over the last decade, fertility and hatchability issues have emerged as key topics of interest for both breeders and producers. In this study, we took an analytical approach to interrogate declining fertility trends among U.
