Background: The occurrence of individuals exhibiting both male and female phenotypes is a rare phenomenon observed across various insect orders.

New Information: This study documents the first case of an intersex individual of Candèze, 1873, from the Korean Peninsula, including behavioural findings. This is the first report of such a phenomenon in the family Elateridae. Two cases of gynandromorphism are also described: one in (Motschulsky, 1861) (Lucanidae) and the other in (Kôno, 1931) (Scarabaeidae). The former is a new record for this subspecies. An updated list of intersex and gynandromorphic beetles is also provided.

Background: Health care professionals often face challenges in providing affirming and culturally competent care to transgender, nonbinary, and intersex (TNBI) patients due to a lack of understanding and training in TNBI health care. This gap highlights the opportunity for tailored educational resources to enhance health care professionals' interactions with TNBI individuals.

Objective: This study aimed to explore health care professionals' perspectives on education and awareness of health issues related to TNBI individuals.

17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 3 deficiency is a 46,XY difference of sex development (DSD) that may present in childhood with inguinal testes or at puberty following virilization. We present four individuals, assigned female at birth, to highlight complexities and considerations surrounding orchiectomy. We reviewed the literature and created a "FACT sheet" to guide shared decision-making for patients, parents, and providers.

Young people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual, and other sexual and gender minorities (LGBTQIA+) in the United States experience poorer health than US youths overall. A social ecological approach that recognizes the multidimensional and multilevel influences on healthcare was used to identify barriers and propose interventions to achieve health equity for LGBTQIA+ adolescents and young adults. Database searches were conducted for original articles published within the last decade (2014-2024) that identified healthcare barriers for LGBTQIA+ individuals with participants aged 10-24 years and/or their family members or healthcare providers.

Disrupting Amh and androgen signaling reveals their distinct roles in zebrafish gonadal differentiation and gametogenesis.

Commun Biol

March 2025

Department of Biomedical Sciences and Centre of Reproduction, Development and Aging (CRDA), Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Macau, Taipa, Macau, 999078, China.

Sex determination and differentiation in zebrafish involve a complex interaction of male and female-promoting factors. While Dmrt1 has been established as a critical male-promoting factor, the roles of Anti-Müllerian hormone (Amh) and androgen signaling remain less clear. This study employed an estrogen-deficient zebrafish model (cyp19a1a-/-) to dissect individual and combined roles of Amh and androgen receptor (Ar) signaling in gonadal differentiation and gametogenesis.
