The noctuid genus Barnes & Benjamin (Noctuidae, Oncocnemidinae) is revised to include three species for the United States of America, Barnes & Benjamin from southeast Arizona, from central Arizona, and . from Texas. Two genera are described for species formerly included in . includes from Arizona and New Mexico and from west Texas. contains only Smith, from Arizona. A key to genera and species is presented and adults and genitalia of all taxa are illustrated. and are assigned to Oncocnemidinae based on molecular evidence.

Echocardiographic reference ranges of myocardial work in children and adolescents: A meta-analysis.

Int J Cardiol

April 2025

The Blalock-Taussig-Thomas Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center, Department of Pediatrics, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, USA.

Background: Establishing reference values for LV myocardial work (MW) is essential before its widespread implementation in pediatrics. This study aims to provide normal LV MW ranges, encompassing global work index (GWI), global constructive work (GCW), global wasted work (GWW), and global work efficiency (GWE).

Methods: Databases were searched through February 1st, 2024, for studies reporting MW indices in healthy children across pediatric age categories.

Background: While clinical overlap between Kawasaki disease (KD) and multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) has been evident, information regarding those presenting with shock has been limited. We sought to determine associations with shock within and between diagnosis groups.

Methods: The International KD Registry enrolled contemporaneous patients with either KD or MIS-C from 39 sites in 7 countries from January 1, 2020, to January 1, 2023.

October 2024

Department of Pediatrics, The Blalock-Taussig-Thomas Pediatric and Congenital Heart Center, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University, Johns Hopkins Hospital, 600 N. Wolfe Street, 1389 Blalock, Baltimore, MD, 21287, USA.

Background: Anthracyclines are essential in pediatric cancer treatment, but patients are at risk cancer therapy-related cardiac dysfunction (CTRCD). Standardized definitions by the International Cardio-Oncology Society (IC-OS) aim to enhance precision in risk assessment.

Objectives: Categorize distinct phenotypes among pediatric patients undergoing anthracycline chemotherapy using unsupervised machine learning.

ALSUntangled #76: Wahls protocol.

Amyotroph Lateral Scler Frontotemporal Degener

February 2025

Department of Neurology, Duke University, Durham, NC, USA.

Article Synopsis
  • - The Wahls diet is a specialized version of the Paleolithic diet, focusing on nutrient-rich foods like leafy greens and omega-3 fatty acids while limiting processed foods and sugars, aiming to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress.
  • - While some studies link components of the Wahls diet, like high carotenoids and omega-3s, to reduced ALS risk, there is no solid evidence proving it slows ALS progression, with conflicting results from animal model research.
  • - Additionally, the Wahls diet has led to significant weight loss in people with multiple sclerosis, raising concerns since weight loss can worsen ALS, leading to the conclusion that the diet shouldn't be endorsed for ALS patients.

Background: Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) is an autoimmune disease of the peripheral nervous system that can lead to severe disability from muscle weakness and sensory disturbances. Around a third of patients do not respond to currently available treatments, and many patients with a partial response have residual neurological impairment, highlighting the need for effective alternatives. Efgartigimod alfa, a human IgG1 antibody Fc fragment, has demonstrated efficacy and safety in patients with generalised myasthenia gravis.
