The study investigated associations of metabolic, anthropometric, and neuromuscular parameters with 50 to 400 m front crawl performance. Competition performances of 24 female swimmers (14.9 ± 1.3 years) were recorded and metabolic determinants (maximal oxygen uptake and lactate accumulation [ċLa], cost of swimming [C], and lactate threshold 1 [LT1] using 200 m all-out, 20 s sprint, 500 m submaximal, and 3 min incremental test, respectively), anthropometry and dryland strength (squat and bench press 1 repetition maximum [1RM/1RM] and mean propulsive power [MPP/MPP]) were assessed. 1RM (61.9 ± 13.3 kg) and MPP (207 ± 45 W) correlated significantly with 50 (1.84 ± 0.07 m∙s) and 100 m performance (1.68 ± 0.06 m∙s) (r ≥ 0.45) and ċLamax (0.35 ± 0.12 mmol·L·s) and body mass (60.1 ± 7.0 kg) with 50 and 100 m, respectively (r ≥ 0.44). Only LT1 (1.23 ± 0.04 m∙s) correlated significantly with 200 (1.52 ± 0.05 m∙s) and 400 m performance (1.43 ± 0.06 m∙s) (r ≥ 0.56). Multiple regression explained 33-35% and 61-86% of the variance in short- and middle-distance performance based on 1RM and arm span and LT1, C, and fat percentage, respectively. Based on the analyses, mechanical determinants are more predictive of short- and metabolic determinants of middle-distance performance.

Genetic factors contribute to the development of metabolic syndrome and subsequent arterial hypertension (AH). The study of the T786C polymorphism of the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene in arterial hypertension is important as its correlation with adipokine imbalance is a novelty area to find associations between hypertension development, obesity, and heredity. The purpose of the current study was to investigate serum adipokines levels, depending on the T786C polymorphism of the eNOS in patients with arterial hypertension.

Pituitary neuroendocrine tumors (PitNETS) are common intracranial tumors, but extrasellar or ectopic PitNETS are very rare and supposed to originate from some pituitary remnants. They are mostly found in sphenoidal sinus. But particularly, ectopic clival PitNETS are highly aggressive and can cause bone invasion and can be misdiagnosed as other lesions of the skull base such as chordomas.

Purpose: This study aimed to examine the differential expression profiles of plasma metabolites in rat models of post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) and elucidate the roles of metabolites and their pathways in the progression of PTOA using bioinformatics analysis.
Method: Plasma samples were collected from 24 SD female rats to model PTOA, and metabolomic assays were conducted. The samples were divided into three groups: the surgically induced mild PTOA group (Group A: 3 weeks postoperative using the modified Hulth model; age 2 months), the surgically induced severe PTOA group (Group B: 5 weeks postoperative using the modified Hulth model; age 2 months), and the normal control group (Group C: healthy rats aged 2 months).

Background: Hospital studies suggest that scrub typhus is a leading cause of severe undifferentiated fever in regions across Asia where the disease is endemic, but the population-based incidence of infection and illness has been little studied.
Methods: We conducted a population-based cohort study to assess epidemiologic and clinical characteristics of scrub typhus in 37 villages in Tamil Nadu, India, where the disease is highly endemic. Study participants were visited every 6 to 8 weeks over a period of 2 years; a venous blood sample was obtained from those who had had fever since the last visit.
