Inflammation is a protective mechanism that also starts the healing process. However, inflammatory reaction may cause severe tissue damage. The increased influx of phagocytic leukocytes may produce excessive amount of reactive oxygen species, which leads to additional cell injury. Inflammatory response activates the leukocytes and thus induces tissue damage and prolongs inflammation. The inflammation-induced activation of the complement system may also contribute to cell injury. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and glucocorticoids are chief agents for treating inflammation associated with the diseases. However, the unwanted side effects of NSAIDs (e.g., gastrointestinal disturbances, skin reactions, adverse renal effects, cardiovascular side effects) and glucocorticoids (e.g., suppression of immune system, Cushing's syndrome, osteoporosis, hyperglycemia) limit their use in patients. Natural herbs are important sources of anti-inflammatory drugs. The ingredients extracted from natural herbs display anti-inflammatory effects to work through multiple pathways with lower risk of adverse reaction. At present, the main anti-inflammatory natural agents include saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, polysaccharides, and so on. The present article will review the anti-inflammatory effects of saponins including escin, ginsenosides, glycyrrhizin, astragaloside, Panax notoginseng saponins, saikosaponin, platycodin, timosaponin, ophiopogonin D, dioscin, senegenin.

Due to bleomycin's cytotoxic characteristics, which include cardiotoxicity, this investigation looked at the effectiveness of costus ethanolic extract in reducing cardiotoxicity in male rats receiving bleomycin therapy. Forty adult male rats (160-200 g) were evenly allocated into four groups: group (1) included normal rats serving as the control; group (2) included normal rats administered 200 mg/kg of costus ethanolic extract (CEE) orally for 6 weeks; group (3) consisted of rats receiving bleomycin (15 mg/kg twice weekly, ip) for 6 weeks; and group (4) involved rats treated orally with CEE (200 mg/kg/day) for 6 weeks following bleomycin intoxication. The results indicated that the CEE significantly reversed the cardiological deteriorations brought on by bleomycin; this was demonstrated by a considerable increase in cardiac SOD, GPx, GSH, and CAT, along with a substantial decrease in cardiac MDA, NO, and DNA fragmentation.

Background: Anti-human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) IgG1-based antibody therapies significantly improve cancer prognosis, yet intrinsic or acquired resistance to fragment antigen-binding (Fab)-mediated direct effects commonly occurs. Most resistant tumors retain antigen expression and therefore remain potentially targetable with anti-HER2 therapies that promote immune-mediated responses. Tumor-antigen-specific IgE class antibodies can mediate powerful immune cell-mediated effects against different cancers and have been shown to activate IgE Fc receptor-expressing monocytes.
