Microbial Electrochemical Technology (MET) offers a promising avenue for CO utilization by leveraging the ability of chemolithotrophic microorganisms to use inorganic carbon in biosynthetic processes. By harnessing the power of electroactive bacteria, METs can facilitate the conversion of inorganic carbon into organic compounds. Therefore, this work combines biosurfactant production at the anode and PHB production at the cathode of Microbial Fuel Cells (MFCs), while testing the efficiency of Microbial Electrosynthesis Cells (MECs), and traditional culture in liquid media.

Genotyping by sequencing reveals the genetic diversity and population structure of Peruvian highland maize races.

Front Plant Sci

February 2025

Laboratorio de Genómica y Bioinformática, Universidad Nacional Agraria la Molina (UNALM), Lima, Peru.

Peruvian maize exhibits abundant morphological diversity, with landraces cultivated from sea level (sl) up to 3,500 m above sl. Previous research based on morphological descriptors, defined at least 52 Peruvian maize races, but its genetic diversity and population structure remains largely unknown. Here, we used genotyping-by-sequencing (GBS) to obtain single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that allow inferring the genetic structure and diversity of 423 maize accessions from the genebank of Universidad Nacional Agraria la Molina (UNALM) and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Tayacaja (UNAT).

Transient destabilization of whole brain dynamics induced by N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT).

Commun Biol

March 2025

Universidad de Buenos Aires, Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales, Departamento de Física, and CONICET - Universidad de Buenos Aires, Instituto de Física Aplicada e Interdisciplinaria (INFINA), Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The transition towards the brain state induced by psychedelic drugs is frequently neglected in favor of a static description of their acute effects. We use a time-dependent whole-brain model to reproduce large-scale brain dynamics measured with fMRI from 15 volunteers under 20 mg intravenous N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (DMT), a short-acting psychedelic. To capture its transient effects, we parametrize the proximity to a global bifurcation using a pharmacokinetic equation.

Establishment and characterization of a gill cell line from turbot (Scophthalmus maximus).

Fish Shellfish Immunol

March 2025

College of Marine Life Sciences, Ocean University of China, Qingdao 266003, China; MOE Key Laboratory of Evolution & Marine Biodiversity and Institute of Evolution & Marine Biodiversity, Ocean University of China, Qingdao 266003, China. Electronic address:

Turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) is a main breeding marine fish species in northern China, but its aquaculture industry is seriously threatened by bacterial diseases. The turbot cell line will provide effective tools for the study of turbot immunity and basic biology. In this study, a continuous passaged Scophthalmus maximus gill (SMG) cell line was established through primary culture and subculture, and the optimal culture conditions were determined.
