Living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) is a useful therapeutic option for end-stage liver disease due to the shortage of deceased donor liver grafts, particularly in Asia and Türkiye. Right liver LDLT is frequently performed in adults and some cases require anterior section venous drainage. Synthetic grafts, particularly expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (e-PTFE), are often preferred for venoplasties. Despite its many advantages, some complications associated with these grafts have been reported, such as gastrointestinal tract migration, perforation, and bleeding. Here we present an extremely rare case about an e-PTFE graft.

Background: Despite multiple techniques, portal vein (PV) inflow reconstruction during living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) for patients with biliary atresia (BA) and small-diameter PV remains a challenge. The use of PV interposition grafts has emerged as a promising therapeutic strategy to mitigate complications and reinterventions.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective multi-center cohort study of patients under 3 years of age (n=85) undergoing LDLT for biliary atresia using PV interposition grafts.

Interactions between immune system constituents are mediated through direct contact or the transfer of mediators. The study aimed to assess the correlation between system components and out-of-body signals in a model of liver inflammation. In the first experiment, mice injected with Concanavalin A (ConA) were housed in a cage with a tube on top containing healthy livers or livers harvested from mice injected with ConA.

The increase in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and its progression to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) is a worldwide healthcare challenge. Heterogeneity between men and women in the prevalence and mechanisms of MASLD and MASH is related to differential sex hormone signalling within the liver, and declining hormone levels during aging. In this study we used biochemically characterised pluripotent stem cell derived 3D liver spheres to model the protective effects of testosterone and estrogen signalling on metabolic liver disease 'in the dish'.

Although refrigerated storage slows the metabolism of volunteer donor RBCs, which is essential in transfusion medicine, cellular aging still occurs throughout this in vitro process. Storage-induced microerythrocytes (SMEs) are morphologically-altered senescent RBCs that accumulate during storage and are cleared from circulation following transfusion. However, the molecular and cellular alterations that trigger clearance of this RBC subset remain to be identified.

The sensitive detection of the radioactive thorium (Th) ion with an oxidation state of +4 (Th) is of great significance for environmental protection and life safety. In this study, five fluorescence sensors with regulated donor-acceptor (D-A) interactions were constructed for Th detection based on intramolecular charge transfer and aggregation-induced emission mechanisms. Among the developed sensors, bearing electron-deficient π-bridge and weak D-A interactions presented ratiometric fluorescence detection behavior toward Th in aqueous solution due to its aggregation-induced emission characteristics and unique D-A-D structures.
