Thermokarst lakes as hot spots of methane (CH) release are crucial for predicting permafrost carbon feedback to global warming. These lakes are suffering from serious drainage events, however, the impacts of lake drainage on CH release remain unclear. Here, synthesizing field drilling, incubation experiments, and carbon composition and microbial communities, we reveal the temperature sensitivities (Q) and drivers of CH release from drainage-affected lakes on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. We find that cumulative CH release decreases with depth, where 0-30 cm-depth sediment accounts for 97% of the whole release. The Q of surface sediment is 2 to 4 times higher than deep layers, but roughly 56% lower than the non-drainage lakes. The response of CH release to warming is mainly driven by microbial communities (49.3%) and substrate availability (30.3%). Our study implies that drainage mitigates CH release from thermokarst lakes and sheds light on crucial processes for understanding permafrost carbon projections.

Pancreatic pseudocysts are a complication of both acute and chronic pancreatitis that usually develop four to six weeks from the onset of pancreatitis. Alcoholic pancreatitis is the most important risk factor for developing such cysts, although non-alcoholic cases do also occur. This is the case of a 58-year-old male patient who presented to our emergency department with a two-day history of abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and inability to tolerate oral food and liquids.

The retreat of the Antarctic Ice Sheet is conventionally attributed to increased ocean melting of ice shelves, potentially enhanced by internal instability from grounding lines near retrograde bed slopes. Ocean melting is enhanced by increased intrusion of modified Circumpolar Deep Water (mCDW) into ice shelf cavities. Upwelling from the release of subglacial meltwater can enhance mCDW's melting ability, though its efficacy is not well understood and is not represented in current ice sheet loss projections.

Background And Study Aims: Cholecystectomy is the standard treatment for acute cholecystitis, but it may not be suitable for all patients. For those who cannot undergo surgery, a percutaneous cholecystostomy tube (PCT) and ERCP-guided transpapillary gallbladder drainage are viable options. We aimed to perform a nationwide study to assess 30-day readmission rates, adverse events (AEs), and mortality rates in these two cohorts.

Chylothorax following pediatric cardiac surgery increases morbidity and mortality. The clinical outcomes of patients with chylothorax with prolonged drainage compared to prompt resolution have not been described. This is a retrospective cohort study across eight United States pediatric cardiac intensive care units (ICU).
