Narrative Medicine is an international discipline at the intersection of humanities, the arts, clinical practice and healthcare justice. This discipline aims to deepen skills of self-awareness, presence, attention and creative capacities and evokes our capacity to attend to the emotional undercurrents of narrative stories both in spoken and written form. Through group discussion and human connection of sharing stories/writing and creative exchange, we expand justice, equity, attention to self and others, and how we interact with our complex healthcare system. A one-hour narrative medicine workshop has been developed with the goal and intention for other medical educators, faculty, and leaders in the field of well-being to be able to reference this step-by-step curriculum and replicate it in their home programs in order to mitigate burnout and promote well-being, connection and community.

Serious mental disorders such as schizophrenia and major depression are associated with considerable morbidity and mortality, resulting in much shorter life expectancies in those affected. The discovery of antipsychotic medications ushered in improved health outcomes for people with serious mental disorders but also brought about increased morbidity due to their metabolic side effects, including obesity and diabetes mellitus. Antidepressant medications have a more favorable metabolic side effect profile, but some can still cause weight gain and hyperglycemia.

Importance: Expectancy effects are significant confounding factors in psychiatric randomized clinical trials (RCTs), potentially affecting the interpretation of study results. This narrative review is the first, to our knowledge, to explore the relationship between expectancy effects, compromised blinding integrity, and the effects of active treatment/placebo in psychiatric RCTs. The causative agents are unicellular, achlorophyllous, "yeast-like" microalgae of the genus Prototheca (Trebouxiophyceae, Chlorophyta).
