Background: The odd-scaled snake genus , which is widely distributed in northern Vietnam, China and Japan, is a poorly-known group of snakes. Numerous species within this genus have been described based on few specimens or only a single type specimen. Ma, Shi, Xiang, Shu & Jiang, 2023 was described based on only two male specimens from Huaihua City and Changsha City, Hunan Province, China. To date, this species has only been recorded in Hunan Province and the information on females is not available. During our herpetological surveys in 2024, two specimens were collected from Guizhou Province, China. We compared morphology and mitochondrial DNA sequence data of these two specimens with all the species of the genus . Both datasets strongly supported classification of the adult female specimen from Dushan County to and the adult male specimen from Xifeng County to .

New Information: In this study, we describe the first female specimen of in detail and provide revised diagnoses of this species based on newly-collected and examined specimens and update the distribution of and .

Turbot (Scophthalmus maximus) is a main breeding marine fish species in northern China, but its aquaculture industry is seriously threatened by bacterial diseases. The turbot cell line will provide effective tools for the study of turbot immunity and basic biology. In this study, a continuous passaged Scophthalmus maximus gill (SMG) cell line was established through primary culture and subculture, and the optimal culture conditions were determined.

Mulberry leaves, a traditional Chinese medicine with the values of medicine and food, are rich in various active ingredients and nutrients. Gastrointestinal bacteria are recognized to play a crucial role in food digestion, nutrient metabolism and the host immune health. However, the modulations of mulberry leaves on microbiota and metabolites remain insufficiently understood.

Fucosylated glycosaminoglycan (FG) from Holothuroidea exhibits notable structural diversity and multiple biological activities. This study investigated the HfFG isolated from the sea cucumber Holothuria floridana, focusing on its chemical structure and biological activities. Structural analysis of eleven oligosaccharides (a-k) and a depolymerized product (dHfFG-II) using NMR identified the HfFG backbone as chondroitin sulfate E (CS-E), with various branches, including L-Fuc, L-Fuc, L-Fuc, and the unique disaccharide D-GalNAc-α1,2-L-Fuc, attached at C-3 of GlcA.

The depolymerized products and oligosaccharide fractions from sea cucumber fucosylated glycosaminoglycans (FGs) are promising anticoagulant candidates, and more novel FG-derived oligosaccharides from low-priced sea cucumbers are expected to be obtained. This study isolated 5-12 oligomers (OF1-OF3) with unusual branches from β-eliminative depolymerized products of FG (CqFG). Detailed NMR analyses showed that OF1-OF3 consisted of a chondroitin 4,6-sulfates backbone and some sulfated fucosyl branches (FucS), including monosaccharides (α-l-Fuc, α-l-Fuc, α-l-Fuc, α-l-Fuc, and α-l-Fuc) and a disaccharide D-Gal-α1,3-l-Fuc with the ratio of ~36:35:10:7:3:9, attached to the C-3 position of β-d-GlcA or its derivatives, such as α-l-Δ4,5GlcA and β-d-GlcA-ol.

Specific expression profiles of lncRNAs in cis-regulatory responses to gill in Litopenaeus vannamei under high alkalinity.

Int J Biol Macromol

College of Animal Science & Technology, Gansu Agricultural University, No. 1 Yingmen Village, Anning District, Lanzhou 730070, Gansu Province, China.

As a pivotal regulatory molecule, long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) can coordinate the network regulation of transcription and post-transcriptional processes. However, little is known about their cis-regulatory contributions in gene expression of crustaceans under alkalinity stress. In this study, the purpose was to explore the potential role of lncRNA in gill of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) under different alkalinity stress (C: 50 mg/L and T: 350 mg/L).
