Purpose: To explore the differences in adverse oral behavior between patients with anterior disc displacement without reduction(ADDWoR) and healthy individuals without temporomandibular disorders(TMD).
Methods: From January to October 2023, a total of 170 patients with clinically confirmed ADDWoR were recruited from the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, and 165 healthy subjects were recruited as controls during the same period. All subjects completed baseline data survey and Oral Behavior Checklist(OBC). The scores of each item and the total score of OBC were compared between the two groups. Logistic regression was used to analyze the relationship between oral behavior and ADDWoR. SPSS 23.0 software package was used for data analysis.
Results: The oral behavior scores of 16 items, sleeping oral behavior scores, waking oral behavior scores, and total OBC scores of the ADDWoR group were significantly higher than those of the healthy group(P<0.05). Logistics regression analysis showed that the three behaviors of chin compression during sleep, teeth clenching and chin leaning forward or to one side when awake were risk factors for ADDWoR(P<0.05).
Conclusions: Compared with non-TMD healthy individuals, ADDWoR patients have a higher frequency of multiple adverse oral behaviors, among which, the occurrence of 3 behaviors (compression of the chin during sleep, gnashing of the teeth and leaning of the chin forward or to one side when awake) can increase the risk of ADDWoR.

Purpose: Medically tailored transitional foods (TFs) may be a clinically viable alternative to pureed consistency for individuals requiring texture-modified foods. However, little remains known about the performance of TFs during the swallow. The purpose of this investigation was to describe oropharyngeal swallowing physiology in patients with dysphagia during consumption of TFs as compared to pureed solids.

Environmental influences on traits and associated transgenerational epigenetic inheritance have widespread implications but remain controversial and underlying mechanisms poorly understood. We introduce long-term environmental induction experiments on alternative diets in , a nematode exhibiting mouth-form plasticity including predation, by propagating 110 isogenic lines for 101 generations with associated food-reversal experiments. We found dietary induction and subsequent transgenerational inheritance of the predatory morph and identified a role of ubiquitin ligase EBAX-1/ZSWIM8 in this process.

Background/aims: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Health Service Executive (HSE) and Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) recommended fasting and random plasma glucose (FPG/RPG) alongside glycated haemoglobin (HbA) to replace the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) for diagnosing Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM).
Methods: The study compared testing patterns and diagnostic rates for GDM before and after implementing the RCOG guidelines (01/05/2020) in pregnancies beginning 01/11/2018 to 31/03/2021. Trends were inspected using Cochrane-Armitage tests.

Background: The Chronic Ocular Pain Questionnaire (COP-Q) is a newly developed patient-reported outcome (PRO) measure intended to assess symptoms and impacts associated with Chronic Ocular Surface Pain (COSP). This study assessed the psychometric properties of the COP-Q to determine the adequacy of the COP-Q as a 'fit-for-purpose' instrument to derive trial endpoints for future clinical studies in COSP.
Methods: Patients with COSP completed the COP-Q daily for four weeks on an electronic, touch-screen, tablet device as part of a longitudinal, observational study in the United States (N = 124).

Kindling is an experimental-induced seizure consistent with epilepsy disease, a chronic neurological disorder characterised by spontaneous and repeated seizures. This disease is associated with oxidative stress, and most therapeutic strategies against epilepsy aim at improving the antioxidant defence mechanism in the brain. However, prolonged usage and associated adverse side effects limit antiepileptics, warranting natural antioxidant patronage.
