: Issues related to the chronic venous leg ulcer (VLU) treatment and prevention of recurrences remain the subject of research, but so too do common clinical problems in daily medical practice. Due to its medicinal properties, Manuka honey is increasingly used in the treatment of wounds of various origins. The aim of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of Manuka honey for the topical treatment of non-healing, chronic, venous leg ulcers. : Eighty patients with chronic VLU participated in the study and were randomized into two equinumerous groups. In group 1, patients were treated with topical Manuka honey application and short stretch bandage compression, whereas, in group 2, antimicrobial calcium alginate wound dressing + Ag was used instead of Manuka honey. The efficacy of both treatment methods was compared. : The ulcerations in patients from group 1 have healed completely after up to seven weeks of therapy in all cases. In contrast, in all patients from group 2, the healing process was longer but completed successfully after up to 14 weeks of the therapy. The process of wound cleaning from microorganisms was also faster in group 1, as well as the reduction in ulcer area during treatment. : It was found that the topical administration of Manuka honey may be a promising alternative to traditional methods of non-healing VLU treatment.

Mānuka honey is New Zealand's (NZ) most globally sought-after honey variety, due to the bioactive effects conferred by methyl glyoxal (MGO). Several NZ meaderies produce Mānuka mead, being a unique NZ product with significant marketing potential; however, it has not been explored in the scientific literature, and MGO has never been quantified in mead of any type. Thus, a versatile HPLC method for the quantification of MGO in both Mānuka mead and honey has been developed, optimised and validated.

Honey has long been recognized for its antimicrobial properties, attributed to components such as polyphenols and biodefense proteins. Among honey types, Manuka honey, rich in methylglyoxal, and citrus honey, abundant in flavonoids and bioactive enzymes, exhibit potent antimicrobial activity. This study aims to enhance the antimicrobial and antibiofilm efficacy of Manuka and citrus honey by incorporating natural additives-aloe vera, Indian costus, and mint essential oil-into cream formulations.

Functional dyspepsia (FD) and gastroparesis (GP) are clinically managed as distinct upper gastrointestinal conditions but present with symptoms that are often indistinguishable. FD is a common disorder of gut-brain interaction that negatively impacts quality of life, while GP is considered a rare disease exclusively defined by delayed gastric emptying and symptoms. The degree of overlap between these disorders makes them hard to differentiate in clinical practice, thereby impacting treatment decisions.
