Sugar-sweetened beverages (SSBs) and cigarettes are addictive substances and addictive substances are often related in consumption with each other. However, the potential interdependence between SSB and cigarette consumption has not been explored in the literature. As SSB and cigarette consumption have posed a great threat to individual health, the knowledge of such interdependence is critical for policymakers to design and coordinate government interventions.

Health Care Spending Increases and Value in South Korea.

JAMA Health Forum

January 2025

Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center, Stanford University, Stanford, California.

Importance: Health care spending in South Korea (hereafter Korea) nearly doubled from 2010 to 2019. However, little is known about the drivers and effectiveness of these spending increases in terms of changes in disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs).

Objectives: To evaluate the factors contributing to changes in health care spending and DALYs and estimate the value of health care spending from 2010 to 2019 in Korea.

Selective Interface Engineering with Large π-Conjugated Molecules Enables Durable Zn Anodes.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

January 2025

USTC: University of Science and Technology of China, School of Chemistry and Materials Science, No.96, JinZhai Road, Baohe District, 230026, Hefei, CHINA.

Undesirable dendrite growth and side reactions at the electrical double layer (EDL) of Zn/electrolyte interface are critical challenges limiting the performance of aqueous zinc ion batteries. Through density functional theory calculations, we demonstrate that grafting large π-conjugated molecules (e.g.

Testing for PD-L1 expression by immunohistochemistry (IHC) is used to predict immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) benefit but has performed inconsistently in urothelial cancer (UC) clinical trials. Different approaches are used for PD-L1 IHC. We analyzed paired PD-L1 IHC data on UC samples using the SP142 and 22C3 assays from the phase 3 IMvigor130 trial and found discordant findings summarized by four phenotypes: PD-L1 positive by both assays (PD-L1 double positive; PD-L1DP), PD-L1 positive by the SP142 assay only (SP142 single positive; SP142SP), PD-L1 positive by the 22C3 assay only (22C3 single positive; 22C3SP), and PD-L1 negative by both assays double negative (PD-L1 double negative; PD-L1DN).

Biological Characteristics and Whole-Genome Analysis of a Porcine Phage.

Vet Sci

January 2025

College of Animal Science and Technology, Shihezi University, Shihezi 832003, China.

(1) Background: In recent years, the increasing emergence of multidrug-resistant pathogens in pig farms has begun to pose a severe threat to animal welfare and, by extension, public health. In this study, we aimed to explore the biological characteristics and genomic features of bacteriophages that are capable of lysing porcine multidrug-resistant , which was isolated from sewage. In doing so, we provided a reference for phage therapies that can be used to treat multidrug-resistant strains.
