Carrageenan oligosaccharides (COSs) possess versatile activities and have drawn increasing attention in recent years. Due to their unique structures, COSs have been considered to be potential antibacterial agents and immune stimulators. Herein, we aimed to efficiently prepare the COSs by using a novel carrageenase CgkA from with high activity and further investigate the effects of dietary supplementation with COSs on the growth performance, serum biochemical parameters and non-specific immunity in Carassius auratus gibelio. The results indicated that the CgkA could effectively degrade the carrageenan into oligosaccharides with DPs of 2-6 and the oligosaccharides exhibited promoting effects on growth performance, serum biochemical index and non-specific immune parameters. After a 6-month feeding trial, the SR (Survival Ratio) was significantly higher in fish fed 0.1% (Diet 1), 0.2% (Diet 2), 0.5% (Diet 3) and 1% (Diet 4) COSs diets than that in the control group ( < 0.05). In addition, the supplementation of COSs decreased the malondialdehyde (MDA) content in the serum and increased the activity of lysozyme (LZM), superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT). In conclusion, COSs as a dietary supplement enhance the growth performance and non-specific immunity of crucian carp and their resistance to diseases.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine the marginal seal of novel bioactive restorative materials and the material-related properties associated with bacterial microleakage.
Methods: Class II cavities prepared into human extracted teeth were restored with: Venus Diamond (VD) + selective enamel etching (SEE)/self-etching universal adhesive (SEA), ACTIVA BioACTIVE RESTORATIVE (AB) + SEE/SEA, Cention Forte (CF) + Cention Primer, Ketac Universal Aplicap (KU), EQUIA Forte HT (EF) and Surefil One (SO) and exposed to a cariogenic multi-species bacterial suspension for 7 days. Bacterial microleakage was visualized with a modified gram staining protocol and bacterial penetration depths were microscopically determined after sectioning the teeth.

Aims: Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) remains a major global health challenge, particularly due to increasing drug resistance. Beyond the well-characterized mutations, the mechanisms involved in driving resistance appear to be more complex. This study investigated the differential gene expression of Ethiopian drug-resistant Mtb sub-lineage 4.

Zinc-ion batteries become a major research focus in energy storage, valued for their low cost and high safety. However, their widespread application is hindered by poor zinc anode stability caused by dendrites, side reactions, and poor performance across a wide temperature range at a strong hydrogen bond network aqueous electrolyte. In this study, we propose a strategy for the synergistic combination of a polyacrylamide hydrogel with sucrose.

Objective: To develop and validate a paediatric weight estimation model adapted to the characteristics of the Spanish population as an alternative to currently extended methods.
Methods: Anthropometric data in a cohort of 11 287 children were used to develop machine learning models to predict weight using height and the body mass index (BMI) quartile (as surrogate for body habitus (BH)). The models were later validated in an independent cohort of 780 children admitted to paediatric emergencies in two other hospitals.

Proline rich-39 (PR-39) is a natural antimicrobial protein with good antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities. The miniature Wuzhishan pig (WZSP) has important similarities to humans in anatomical structure, physiological characteristics, and nutrient metabolism that make it an important model animal for biomedical research. This study aimed to investigate the protective effect and therapeutic mechanism of PR-39 on intestinal barrier function using the LPS-induced enteritis model in WZSPs.
