Published: February 2025

Microplastics (MPs), defined as plastic debris, smaller than <5 mm, are viewed as persistent contaminants that significantly modify terrestrial ecosystems and biodiversity by altering soil microbiota, structure, and functions. This paper summarizes MPs' interactions with various pollutants, including heavy metals and pesticides, also addressing socio-economic impacts, such as reduced agricultural yields and threats to regional fisheries. The study emphasizes the need for an on the basis of waste management model to mitigate these effects, advocating for collaborative efforts among stakeholders. Also, interdisciplinary studies incorporating material sciences, ecology, and environmental policy are essential to confront the challenges of MPs to ecological services. Additionally, the review highlights how MPs can serve as vectors for toxins to damage soil health and species survival. The overview underscores a complex interplay between environmental and socio-economic systems, addressing the urgency of harnessing MPs pollution and protecting ecosystem integrity and sustainability.

Introduction: The estrogenic and anti-estrogenic effects of endocrine disruptors were examined using two-dimensional 2D and three-dimensional 3D estrogen receptor-positive T47D and MCF7 human breast cancer cells.

Methods: The model system was used to test the plasticizer Bisphenol A (BPA), a known endocrine disruptor (EDs) with estrogen-like action, aga inst 17β-Estradiol (E2), the endogenous nuclear estrogen receptor (nERs) ligand, and the anti-estrogenic drug Fulvestrant (FUL). Spheroid formation and gene expression of estrogen-regulated markers (pS2 and TGFβ3) both in 2D and 3D cultures were used to establish the dose-dependent cellular effects of these substances, evaluated cell viability either by separately treating with the individual substances or in co-treatment.

The Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta (Delta) is an expansive river delta supplying a large portion of California's fresh water for agriculture and residential use, and it is also an area of critical habitat for numerous state and federally listed species of concern. In many locations, urban stormwater flows directly into the Delta. 6PPD-quinone (6PPD-Q), an ozonation byproduct of a tire antiozonant 6PPD, has been shown to enter surface water via these pathways and can cause various toxicological effects, including acute urban mortality syndrome to coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) at low levels (LC = 41 and 95 ng/L for juveniles and adults, respectively).

Some prostaglandin F (PGF) analogs, including bimatoprost and tafluprost, are pharmaceutical substances known to cause specific abnormal reactions that promote eyelash growth. However, research on the simultaneous analysis of multiple PGF analogs using HPLC-UV or DAD techniques is limited. In this study, a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was developed for the simultaneous analysis of 11 PGF analogs, optimizing both the analytical column and sample preparation method.

Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS), a persistent organic pollutant, significantly disrupts thyroid function. This study presented an integrated computational approach, combining network toxicology, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics simulations to systematically elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying PFOS induced thyroid toxicity. Through integrated analysis of the Comparative Toxicogenomics Database (CTD), GeneCards, and Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM) databases, we identified 205 potential thyroid toxicity-related targets.
