Developing high-performance, low-resistance, and recyclable air filtration materials remains a formidable challenge. Herein, silica nanoparticles (SiO NPs) and supramolecular complexes consisting of melamine (MA) and trimesic acid (TMA) are constructed as SiO@MA·TMA supramolecular nanofibrous composite membrane via a thermally induced precursor process (TIPC) for efficient particulate matter (PM) removal. Hydrophilic SiO NPs as additional nucleation mediators can not only promote the growth of MA·TMA nanocrystalline fibers by shortening the interfacial free energy and thus reducing the nucleation barrier, but also increase fiber surface roughness thus constructing hierarchical structure of membrane. Under the synergy of MA·TMA nanocrystalline fibers and SiO NPs, the membranes possess high filtration efficiency of 99.82% for PM, 99.96% for PM, and 99.98% for PM with low air resistance (153 Pa, <0.15% of standard atmospheric pressure). Taking advantage of the thermally reversible property of supramolecular complexes, the closed-loop recycling of MA·TMA nanocrystalline fibers and SiO NPs are realized. Only green solvents (water and ethanol) are involved in the TIPC process, making this strategy environmentally-friendly and cost-effective. This work not only provides an innovative strategy for the preparation of supramolecular nanofibrous composite materials, but opens an avenue for the development of recyclable high-performance air filters.

Nanoparticles (NPs) have shown great potential in stabilizing foam for enhanced oil recovery (EOR). However, conventional NPs are difficult to recover and may contaminate produced oil, increasing operational costs. In contrast, superparamagnetic FeO NPs can be efficiently recovered using external magnetic fields, offering a sustainable solution for foam stabilization.

Ultrafine nanoparticles (NPs) have attracted extensive research interest, especially in heterogeneous catalysis. However, the inherent sintering propensity of NPs has been a major obstacle to their catalytic stability. Here we report an isolation strategy to preserve highly dispersed ultrafine NPs under extremely harsh conditions.

The development of highly ordered covalent triazine framework (CTF) materials with tailored structures is crucial for advancing functional material applications. Herein, we introduce a novel approach to fabricate covalent triazine framework inverse opal (CTF-IO) photonic crystal beads via a microfluidic-assisted assembly method and pore-confined polymerization. The polymerization process occurs within the interstitial voids of SiO nanoparticles (NPs) photonic crystals, where spatial confinement dictates the growth and arrangement of the CTF framework, resulting in a robust and precisely ordered inverse opal (IO) structure.

Spectrometry, Sample Preparation and Mechanization Group, Institute of Chemistry, Universidade Estadual de Campinas - UNICAMP, P.O. Box 6154, Campinas, SP, 13083-970, Brazil.

This study aimed to investigate the potential of Silicon (SiONPs and NaSiO) to mitigate Hg absorption, accumulation, and toxicity in transgenic soybean plants. By analyzing Hg speciation, total Hg content, physiological characteristics, anatomical structures, and the homeostasis of macro (P, S, Ca, K, and Mg) and micro (Cu, Fe, Mn, Zn) nutrients, the impact of Si against Hg-induced stress was assessed. Plants were cultivated under six treatments: water, SiONPs, NaSiO, NaSiO + HgCl, SiONPs + HgCl, and HgCl.
