The mesothelium is a squamous monolayer that ensheathes internal organs, lines the body cavity, and the diaphragm. It serves as a protective barrier, coated in glycocalyx, and secretes lubricants to facilitate tissue movement. How the mesothelium forms is poorly understood. Here, we investigate , a transcription factor gene expressed in the mesothelium, because it carries variants in patients with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH), a disorder that affects the diaphragm, lung, and other organs. In mice, inactivation of early in organogenesis resulted in CDH and defective mesothelial specification, compromising its function as a signaling center for lung growth. Inactivation of later led to enhanced mesothelium differentiation into mesenchymal cell types through partial epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT), resulting in a unique accumulation of smooth muscle encasing the lung. In this role, MYRF functions in parallel with YAP/TAZ. Together, these findings establish MYRF as a critical regulator of mesothelium development, and when mutated, causes CDH.

Objective: Intestinal current measurement (ICM) provides a sensitive bioassay for assessment of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) function in rectal biopsies and is used as a diagnostic tool for cystic fibrosis (CF). Furthermore, ICM was shown to be sensitive to detect pharmacological rescue of CFTR function by CFTR modulators in people with CF carrying responsive mutations. Results from clinical trials of CFTR modulators across age groups indicate that CFTR function in the sweat duct may be age-dependent with children reaching higher levels than adults.

Background: Vernal keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) is a bilateral, chronic, allergic inflammation of the ocular surface with debilitating ocular signs and symptoms. We compared the efficacies and safeties of 1% tacrolimus eye drops and 1% dexamethasone eye drops in managing unilateral shield ulcers and corneal epitheliopathy secondary to VKC.
Methods: We recruited patients with unilateral shield ulcer and corneal epitheliopathy secondary to VKC in a tertiary referral center in southeast Iran during a 12-month period.

Purpose: To report an interesting case of a massive iris cyst encompassing nearly the entire anterior chamber in an adult female years after cataract surgery.
Observation: A 77-year-old female with a history of bilateral cataract surgery presented with a large ciliary body mass in the left eye. The lesion was first incidentally noted one year prior to presentation and continued to grow and ultimately caused complete obstruction of the visual axis.
