Questions about the fairness, efficacy, and sustainability of volunteerism in community health have led some states and programs to attempt to scale back their reliance on "volunteer" labor. Such attempts demand theory-driven, comparative ethnographic research that makes sense of how such moves unfold and impact the lives of CHWs and the programs surrounding them. Guided by theory of the interaction of political and moral economies, this article comparatively analyzes two predominantly female community health workforces in Ethiopia, who worked as unpaid volunteers when their federal government was supposedly "moving away from volunteerism" in community health: (1) HIV/AIDS-focused, home-based caregivers in Addis Ababa (2007-9) organized by NGOs; and (2) primary health care-focused members of the Women's Development Army in rural Amhara (2012-16) organized by the state.

Background: Vaccine acceptance among People Living with HIV (PLWH) is crucial for managing and mitigating the spread of infectious diseases, including Mpox. This systematic review and meta-analysis assess the rate of vaccine acceptance for Mpox among PLWH and identify factors influencing these rates.
Methods: We searched major databases including PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science up to 30 August 2024 for observational studies involving PLWH that reported on mpox vaccine acceptance rates.

We leveraged a long-acting antiretroviral therapy program infrastructure in the US South to vaccinate 32 of 39 (82%) eligible persons with HIV against hepatitis B virus. Novel interprofessional programmatic synergy may facilitate hepatitis B virus vaccine uptake in a population uniquely at risk in the era of 2-drug and injectable antiretroviral therapy.

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) transactivator Tat is a unique multi-functional viral protein secreted by infected cells. Although its primary function is to promote HIV-1 transcription, secreted Tat interacts with neighboring cells and induces numerous disease-associated pathological changes. Despite the substantial reduction of viral load and disease burden, Tat expression and secretion persist in people living with HIV who are undergoing treatment with highly effective combination antiretroviral therapy (cART).
