Microbial dyes, one major kind of natural dyes, are gaining popularity due to their eco-friendliness and resilience to climate change. Silk is not only an important biological macromolecule but also an excellent textile material, and the two-component fabric blended from silk and polyamide has many advantages. This study explored using recyclable, eco-friendly Monascus pigments in a nano suspension system to dye the fabric. Nano-scale pigments avoided the need for organic solvents and ensured uniform dyeing. Monascus pigments formed a stable nano suspension in water, enabling a one-bath dyeing process, reducing time, costs, and sewage. The dye solution was reusable, maintaining beautiful color after four reuses. Optimal conditions for red and yellow Monascus pigments were identified, achieving high color depth, good rubbing and soap fastness, and UV resistance. The optimal dyeing conditions for red Monascus pigments were 80 °C for 50 min with a dosage of 25 % owf, achieving the highest color depth with level 4 rubbing fastness and soap fastness exceeding level 4. Similarly, for yellow Monascus pigments, the best results were obtained at 80 °C for 80 min with 27 % owf, also reaching level 4 in both rubbing and soap fastness tests.

Secondary metabolites in fungi exhibit various biological activities and serve as important sources of natural compounds for agricultural development and applications. The pks1 gene, which is implicated in anthraquinone biosynthesis, encodes a non-reducing polyketide synthase in Monascus purpureus YY-1. To elucidate the function of pks1, a knockout strain (Δpks1) was successfully generated.

In this study, adding mulberry leaf flavonoids (MLFs) during the liquid-state fermentation of Monascus purpureus significantly improved the production of Monascus pigments (MPs). Compared with the control group, the red, yellow, and orange pigment levels increased by 1.69, 1.

This study explored the complete replacement of sodium nitrite with a combination of pigments (MPs)-calcium carbonate colorant lake (MPs-CaCO lake) and nisin in smoked sausage production. The effects of the replacement on color stability, total aerobic mesophilic bacteria count (TAMB), and physicochemical properties of sausages were assessed. The results indicated that combining 0.

pigments having yellow, orange, and red colors are widely studied for their potential beneficial properties. Many different biological activities have been reported regarding pigments and their derivatives, but the usual method is to test complex extracts from the mycelium of the fungus or from a fungus-fermented substrate. However, this review is mainly concerned with the biological activities of purified pigments.
