The organization of microtubules into a mitotic spindle is critical for animal cell proliferation and involves the cooperation of hundreds of proteins whose molecular roles and regulation are not fully understood. The protein product of the Drosophila gene abnormal spindle, Asp, is a microtubule-associated protein required for correct mitotic spindle formation. To better understand the contribution of Asp to microtubule organization during spindle formation, we reverse-engineered flies to express a version of Asp (Asp), predicted to have lost its ability to bind the phosphatase trimer PP2A-B56.

Charging and Aggregation of Nano-Clay Na-Montmorillonite in the Presence of Ciprofloxacin.

Nanomaterials (Basel)

March 2025

Institute of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Tsukuba, Tsukuba 305-8572, Ibaraki, Japan.

The transport and fate of antibiotics are significantly influenced by co-existing colloidal and nanosized substances, such as clay particles. Montmorillonite, a common clay mineral with a thin nano-sheet-like structure, enhances antibiotic (e.g.

There is a growing recognition of the importance of familial involvement in patient care. In Asian societies, communications with patients' families for routine medical updates and shared decision-making are considered part-and-parcel of clinical practice. Yet, training in familial communications has remained, by and far, a neglected aspect of conventional communications skills training in the medical curriculum, despite distinctive nuances in the communications approach.

Robust Assessments of Lithium Mining Impacts Embodied in Global Supply Chain Require Spatially Explicit Analyses.

Environ Sci Technol

March 2025

Robert Frederick Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, Cornell University, Ithaca, New York 14853, United States.

Lithium is a critical material for the energy transition, but its mining causes significant environmental impacts that will intensify due to surging global demand. Here, we conduct a mining site-specific environmental impact assessment of lithium on a global scale, focusing on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, water use, and land use. We then track the production and international trade flows of all lithium-containing commodities to assess how lithium mining impacts are distributed across global supply chains.

Background: Endovascular treatment (EVT) has been recommended as a superior modality for the treatment of intracranial aneurysm. However, there still exists a worse percentage of poor functional outcome in patients with poor-grade aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) undergoing EVT. Therefore, it is urgently needed to investigate the risk factors and develop a critical decision model in the subtype of such patients.
