λ-type carrageenan (λ-CAR) polysaccharides remain overlooked in the preparation of medical nanoparticles (NP) due to their unsuitable rheological properties and undesired biological effects, although they can also offer advantageous properties. To overcome these obstacles, oligosaccharide derivatives (λ-COS) have been successfully applied to the synthesis of stable NP incorporating both, ferrite cores and divalent manganese (Mn) releasable ions. The acute pro-inflammatory behavior and anticoagulant activity of native λ-CAR were significantly reduced in the case of λ-COS and λ-COS NP, rendering possible their use for medical applications. In vivo MRI studies in mice showed that the λ-COS NP framework is promising for two applications. The first is partial Mn release into the plasma to achieve intracellular Mn-based contrast of the myocardium and imaging of the hepatobiliary system. Second, it serves as a novel sugar-based coating that confers suitable pharmacokinetic properties to NP, making it promising for further targeted therapy applications.

SARS-CoV-2 is an oral pathogen that infects and replicates in mucosal and salivary epithelial cells, contributing to oral post-acute sequelae COVID-19 (PASC) and other oral and non-oral pathologies. While pre-existing inflammatory oral diseases provides a conducive environment for the virus, acute infection and persistence of SARS-CoV-2 can also results in oral microbiome dysbiosis that further worsens poor oral mucosal health. Indeed, oral PASC includes periodontal diseases, dysgeusia, xerostomia, pharyngitis, oral keratoses, and pulpitis suggesting significant bacterial contributions to SARS-CoV-2 and oral tissue tropism.

Root age-dependent processes have remained poorly understood. Here, we define root age-related terms in their eco-/physiological context, provide a synthesis of read-outs and traits characterizing root senescence in different root types, and follow their modulation in the light of metabolic, hormonal, and genetic control. Evidence for an endogenously regulated senescence program in roots includes changes in root anatomy, metabolism, and color, decrease in root activity, increasing levels of stress-related hormones, and increasing expression of certain transcription factors (TFs) or genes involved in oxidative stress defense.

Introduction: Improving the pharmacokinetics of drugs is achieved through nano formulations and the role of natural product in the synthesis of nanomaterials is gaining prominence due to its eco-friendly nature, cost-effectiveness, and demonstrated efficacy. Metal nanoparticles (NPs) derived from Ipomoea aquatica Forsskal have been synthesized and evaluated for their antioxidant and antidiabetic properties towards enhancing the anticancer activity of the plant extracts.
Methodology: Hydroalcoholic extract was obtained from the entire Ipomoea aquatica plant and utilized as a key ingredient in the green synthesis of metal NPs.

Lime and NaS, used in dehairing in the tannery industry, cause the generation of toxic wastes. Ecological security and financial issues demand a look for innovative approaches to leather dehairing free from pollution. The primary goal of this investigation was to explore keratinolytic protease producing bacteria from tannery waste, their genomic evaluation and to assess their possible use in the dehairing process.
