Objective: NA.
Background: Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a rapidly progressive, fatal brain disease. Sporadic CJD (sCJD) is the most common subtype without genetic cause. There have been no reports on biologically related family members who died from sCJD. Here, we report two first cousins (common paternal grandfather) who died of sCJD.
Design/methods: NA.
Results: Patient 1 was a 58-year-old white woman who became unusually quiet with mild aphasia since previous year, and then developed intermittent confusion, which progressed rapidly within 2-3 months, followed by myoclonus, tremor, tactile hallucinations, and gait abnormality. Encephalography (EEG) showed periodic spike and slow waves at a frequency of about 0.5Hz with a left fronto-temporal predominance throughout the recording and evidence of moderately severe diffuse encephalopathy. Cerebral Spinal Fluid (CSF) studies were unremarkable. Patient 2 was a man who was 2 years older than patient 1. At age of 63, he developed forgetfulness and mild gait abnormality, followed by visual hallucinations and myoclonus with startle, which progressed to catastrophic cognitive decline. EEG had no generalized or lateralized epileptiform discharges. CSF showed normal 14-3-3 and cytology. Both patients' Magnet Resonance Imaging (MRI) demonstrated patterns highly suggestive of CJD. Patients died 6 and 4 months after their initial symptoms, respectively. Genetic study failed to find pathogenic mutations of the prion protein gene, and autopsy confirmed their diagnosis of sCJD MM1 and VV1-2, respectively. Both patients were born in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Patient 2 moved to Florida in teenage years, and only visited Michigan in summers. They never lived or traveled together, only met occasionally at family reunion.
Conclusions: To our knowledge, this represents the first case report that two biologically related individuals were diagnosed of sporadic CJD, the mechanism is unknown, further investigation is warranted. Importance: Although evaluation of geographic area inequities in vaccination is crucial to identify areas that need community-based interventions, knowledge of disparities in human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination uptake remains limited in Japan.
Objective: To investigate the association of female cumulative HPV vaccination uptake with neighborhood-based socioeconomic status and access indicators in Osaka City, Japan.
Design, Setting, And Participants: This population-based, cross-sectional study included HPV vaccination data for fiscal year (April 1 to March 31) 2013 to fiscal year 2022 provided by Osaka City.

Purpose: To examine the association of race, ethnicity, and other social determinants of health (SDH) on receipt of optic nerve (ON) evaluation in accordance with National Quality Forum (NQF) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) guideline-based metrics.
Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study consisting of 13,582 patients with POAG receiving care across 12 tertiary care health. The odds of receiving ≥1 ON evaluations to monitor for glaucoma progression over 45 months of follow-up was evaluated.

Aim And Background: The balance between mechanical properties, esthetics, and therapeutic benefits in restorative materials, especially for high-risk patients, is lacking. Effective comparative study designs are required. This randomized clinical trial evaluated the clinical performance of Alkasite bioactive restorative material vs resin-modified glass ionomer (RMGI) in cervical carious lesions according to United States Public Health Service (USPHS) criteria over 1 year.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate patient satisfaction based on the model of "care" proposed by Joan Tronto.
Materials And Methods: A total of 300 patients aged 20-70 years were interviewed using a self-administered questionnaire covering the 4 dimensions of Tronto's care (caring about, taking care of, care giving, and care receiving). The data collected was analyzed using Statistical Package for the social sciences version 19 software.

Highlights: Pre- and post-tests, administered to 2,141 emergency first responder participants, showed an average improvement in test scores from 67% to 75%, highlighting the efficacy of the training. Interviews conducted within 3 years post-training revealed high participant satisfaction, with over 25% reporting adoption of key strategies discussed in the training by their fire/rescue service. Areas of concern were identified, including the lack of understanding related to certain hazards, such as free-flowing grain, which may put first responders at risk of secondary victimization.
