In this study, grapefruit seed extract (GSE)-loaded nanoparticles (GNPs) were formed through ionic gelation between chitosan (CS) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) to improve antibacterial activity against oral bacteria, such as and to demonstrate the impact of particle size on antimicrobial activity. Particle size was negatively correlated with the antibacterial effect; the smaller GNPs showed significantly higher antimicrobial activity than the other particles. The optimal formulation of the smaller GNPs was determined using response surface methodology (RSM). The optimized GNPs improved antibacterial activity, which was approximately 3.5 times higher than that of free GSE ( < 0.05). Moreover, the GNPs were effective at reducing bacterial growth, achieving a reduction of more than 3 log CFU/mL within the first 3 h and complete inhibition of bacterial growth after 9 h. This study suggests that nanoencapsulation significantly enhances its antibacterial activity against oral bacteria.

Background: Ceftazidime-avibactam and colistin are antibiotics of new and regaining importance used for the treatment of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms. The broth microdilution (BMD) test recommended for detecting colistin sensitivity is labor-intensive and difficult to perform under routine conditions. There is a need for alternative methods that produce fast and reliable results in routine laboratory studies.

Background: Selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) show high therapeutic potential. SeNPs obtained by green synthesis methods, using commonly available plants, are an attractive alternative to nanoparticles obtained by classical, chemical methods. The green synthesis process uses environmentally friendly reagents, which offer an eco-friendly advantage.

Plant-based essential oils are currently targeted sources because of their non-toxic, bioactivity, and safety of non-targeted organisms. Various volatile components such as terpenoids, phenolics, and alkaloids make it compatible with broad-spectrum applications. In the current study, essential oil from Citrus hystrix DC.

Acute hemorrhage death on battlefields, during clinical surgeries, and in major accidents is a widespread worldwide problem. Clay-based hemostatic materials have received considerable attention for their low cost and reliable clotting activity, especially in cases of severe bleeding, such as QuikClot, which is a kaolin-based hemostatic gauze that is preferred for battlefield resuscitation. However, the easy detachment of clay particles and the associated risk of thrombosis have seriously hindered the development of clay-based hemostatic materials.
