This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of adding to a low-protein diet on the growth performance, ability immune status, and intestinal microbiota of 0-21-day-old layer chickens. A total of 180 one-day-old healthy Hy-line brown laying chicks were randomly divided into three groups with three replicates each of 20 chicks. The control group was fed a basal diet containing 19% protein, the low-protein (LP) group was fed a diet containing 17% protein, and the probiotic (LPL) group was fed with the 17% protein diet supplemented with (1.0 × 10 CFU/kg). The growth performance, antioxidant capacity, immune status, and gut microbiota of laying chickens were detected. We found that supplementation increased the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), and levels of immunoglobulin (Ig) A, IgG, and interleukin-10 (IL-10) in serum of 17% protein +1.0 × 10 CFU/kg (LPL) compared to the 19% protein group (control). Furthermore, supplementation increased the liver index, GSH-Px and T-AOC activity in serum, and changed the microflora structure, diversity, and polyketose unit bioanabolic metabolism of 17% protein +1.0 × 10 CFU/kg L. plantarum (LPL) compared to the 17% protein group (LP). In conclusion, supplementation could compensate for the adverse effects of low-protein diets in chicks, and the combination of a low-protein diet and is a feasible way to reduce protein in the diet.

Background And Objectives: A simple, quick, and reproducible procedure for distinguishing multiple sclerosis (MS), myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD), and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) at inaugural optic neuritis (ION) could be highly valuable in guiding early management.
Methods: We included all adults admitted to the MS center of Marseille for ION between March 2016 and April 2024, with CSF analysis including the kappa free light chain (K-FLC) index. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to measure the diagnostic ability of the K-FLC index.

The Thr92Ala-Dio2 polymorphism is prevalent worldwide, with about 50% of the population carrying at least one allele. The Ala92-Dio2 allele encodes a less active D2 enzyme and has been associated with neurodegenerative diseases, hypertension, and insulin resistance. Lytic cell death including necroptosis and pyroptosis is induced by mixed lineage kinase domain-like protein (MLKL) phosphorylation and inflammatory caspase specific cleavage Gasdermins in higher mammals, respectively. In this study, we identified a novel MLKL homolog containing a tetrapeptide recognition motif (14-LVAD-17) of inflammatory caspase from Apostichopus japonicus,which was absent of Gasdermins member by genome screening. Functional analysis revealed that AjMLKL was involved in the regulation of Vibrio splendidus AJ01 infection induced lytic coelomocyte death in a cleavage-dependent manner, but not through RIPK3-dependent phosphorylation as mammals.

Directly correlating the morphology and composition of interfacial water is vital not only for studying water icing under critical conditions but also for understanding the role of protein-water interactions in bio-relevant systems. In this study, we present a model system to study two-dimensional (2D) water layers under ambient conditions by using self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) supporting the physisorption of the Cytochrome C (Cyt C) protein layer. We observed that the 2D island-like water layers were uniformly distributed on the SAMs as characterized by atomic force microscopy, and their composition was confirmed by nano-atomic force microscopy-infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy.

Methods: This phase 3, open-label, prospective study (NCT03277313) was conducted at 17 US centers. Eligible patients aged 2 to < 16 years had PIDDs and had received immunoglobulin G (IgG) at a consistent dose for ≥ 3 months before screening.
