The trial population consisted of 50 patients suffering from acute exacerbations of chronic bronchial disease processes. Forty patients were treated with an extempore combination of cefuroxime and N-acetylcysteine at the doses of 2 g and 600 mg/day respectively in two i.m. administrations. The other 10 patients were treated with N-acetylcysteine alone at the same dose. Respiratory tract clinical and instrumental parameters were investigated, and bacteriological tests were performed on sputum samples before and after treatment. Tolerance of the treatment was assessed on the basis of measurement of blood-chemistry parameters.

Background: β-lactams are crucial for anti-Mycobacterium abscessus complex (MABC) therapy. Treating infections is challenging since MABC produces a class A β-lactamase (Bla, which is capable of hydrolyzing β-lactams thus causing drug resistance. Diazabicyclooctane (DBO) β-lactamase inhibitors (BLIs) can inhibit Bla.

We aimed to compare the prescribing behavior and clinical experience of urology providers when using the combined multiplex polymerase chain reaction (M-PCR)/Pooled Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing (P-AST) diagnostic test versus the standard urine culture (SUC) in the same set of patients previously reported to have improved clinical outcomes with M-PCR/P-AST. We conducted a multi-centered, prospective, observational study (clinical trial registration: NCT05091931) with Western Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval (20214705). Adult subjects were split between the M-PCR/P-AST ( = 250) and SUC arms ( = 135).

Purpose: Acute postoperative endophthalmitis (APE) is a rare but severe complication of cataract surgery. During the most recent decades, the use of povidone-iodine (PVI) before surgery combined with intracameral cefuroxime has drastically reduced the incidence of endophthalmitis. The goal of this study is to describe the changes in endophthalmitis rates after cataract surgery over the past two decades in a large tertiary ophthalmology center.

Introduction: Staphylococcus aureus stands as the predominant etiological agent in postoperative acute prosthetic joint infections (PJI), contributing to 35-50% of reported cases. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of dual prophylaxis incorporating cefuroxime and teicoplanin, in combination with nasal decolonization utilizing 70% alcohol, and oral and body lavage with chlorhexidine.
Material And Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of electronic health records regarding primary and revision arthroplasties conducted at our institution from 2020 to 2021.
