Tryptophan (Trp) is an essential amino acid obtained from human diet. It is involved not only in de novo biosynthesis of proteins but also in complex metabolic pathways. Redox transformation of tryptophan is under-explored in comparison with kynurenine, serotonin and indole pyruvate pathways.

Background: Hyperuricemia (HUA) is a metabolic disease disturbing human health caused by the overproduction or underexcretion of uric acid (UA). Astragalus is the root of Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bunge, has notable regulatory effect on chronic nephritis, proteinuria and spontaneous sweating, suggesting it could be a potential anti-HUA agent.

The aim of this study was to identify which biosecurity assessment methods (BAMs) are currently used in practice in animal farms. To address this, a structured questionnaire was developed to gather information such as the animal species, main objectives, type of enforcement, output generated and feedback of the result. In the context of the BETTER Cost Action project, country representatives identified in each of their countries which BAMs were used and completed an online survey.

For centuries, humanity has been captivated by evolution, seeking to unravel the origins of life and identify past patterns with future applications. Viruses, despite their obligate parasitic nature, are the most adaptable biological entities, surpassing cellular life in their variability and adaptability. While many theories about viral evolution exist, a consensus on their origins remains elusive.

Current influenza vaccines are not effective in conferring protection against antigenic variants and pandemics. To improve cross-protection of influenza vaccination, we developed a 5xM2e messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine encoding the tandem repeat conserved ectodomain (M2e) of ion channel protein M2 derived from human, swine, and avian influenza A viruses. The lipid nanoparticle (LNP)-encapsulated 5xM2e mRNA vaccine was immunogenic, eliciting high levels of M2e-specific IgG antibodies, IFN-γ+ T cells, T follicular helper cells, germinal center phenotypic B cells, and plasma cells.
