As one of the commonly used methods for surface passivation of semiconductors, a heterostructure method was developed in this work to passivate surface traps of CsPbBr single crystals (SCs), and further, this method was correlated with carrier recombination processes. Herein, carrier recombination processes in bare and [MAPbCl][CsPbBr]-covered CsPbBr SCs were studied using time-resolved spectroscopic techniques, including steady-state and time-resolved photoluminescence (TRPL) spectroscopy and time-resolved microwave photoconductivity (TRMC). By comparing the kinetics of TRPL and TRMC, we concluded that surface hole-trapping process dominates the TRPL kinetics of bare CsPbBr SCs and surface electron-trapping process dominates the slower decay component in TRMC. By studying carrier recombination processes of CsPbBr SCs with and without choline bromide (CB) additives, we found that the use of CB could introduce additional surface electron and hole traps. For CsPbBr SCs with a shell, we observed charge carrier transfer from the shell to the CsPbBr crystal. We found that the [MAPbCl][CsPbBr] shell can reduce the electron-trapping and hole-trapping rates by 2.2 times and 5.2 times, respectively, indicating that the [MAPbCl][CsPbBr] shell can passivate the surface traps of CsPbBr crystals effectively.

Recombinant human haemoglobin (rHb) is a tetramer protein with heme as cofactors, which have extensive applications in the fields of biomaterials and biomedical therapeutics. However, due to the poor structural stability, the dissociation of heme, weak oxygen transport efficiency, and lower activity, the utilisation of rHb is severely limited in artificial oxygen carriers. Herein, based on the novel developed high-throughput screening strategies and semi-rational design, the engineered rHb mutant with strong stability and heme-binding ability was obtained.

The periodical distribution of N and C atoms in carbon nitride (CN) not only results in localized electrons in each tri-s-triazine unit, but oxidation and reduction sites are in close contact spatially, resulting in severe carrier recombination. Herein, the hydrothermal method was first employed to synthesize carbon nitride (HCN), and then picolinamide (Pic) molecules were introduced at the edge of the carbon nitride so that the photo-generated electrons of the whole structure of the carbon nitride system were transferred from the center to the edge, which effectively promoted the separation of photo-generated carriers and inhibited the recombination of carriers in the structure. The introduced picolinamide not only changed the π-conjugated structure of the entire system but also acted as an electron-withdrawing group to promote charge transfer.

Recent Progress in Bismuth Vanadate-Based Photocatalysts for Photodegradation Applications.

Bismuth vanadate (BiVO), a well-known semiconductor photocatalyst with various advantages, has shown great potential in addressing energy and environmental issues. However, its inherent drawbacks restrict the photocatalytic performance of pure BiVO. In the past few years, many efforts have been devoted to improving the catalytic activity of BiVO and revealing the degradation mechanism in depth.

Lead halide perovskites are widely recognized for their exceptional defect tolerance, setting the benchmark for high-performance optoelectronic applications. Conversely, low-toxicity perovskite-inspired materials (PIMs) typically exhibit suboptimal optoelectronic performance, primarily due to their intrinsic susceptibility to defects. In this study, we address this limitation by exploring the effects of halide vacancies in PIMs through the synthesis of non-stoichiometric CsBiBrI microcrystals (MCs) with a trigonal crystal structure, incorporating iodine vacancies.

Visible-light-driven CO2 reduction presents a long-term answer to environmental challenges. The limited effective optical carriers generated by the limited response dynamics of the existing photocatalyst have severely hindered the development of high efficiency photocatalysts. Here, we report a method of cobalt atoms intercalation in ultrathin BiOBr nanosheets for boosted photocatalytic CO2 reduction.
