Most visual tasks involve looking for specific object features. But we also often perform property-based tasks where we look for specific property in an image, such as finding an odd item, deciding if two items are same, or if an object has symmetry. How do we solve such tasks? These tasks do not fit into standard models of decision making because their underlying feature space and decision process is unclear. Using well-known principles governing multiple object representations, we show that displays with repeating elements can be distinguished from heterogeneous displays using a property we define as visual homogeneity. In behavior, visual homogeneity predicted response times on visual search, same-different and symmetry tasks. Brain imaging during visual search and symmetry tasks revealed that visual homogeneity was localized to a region in the object-selective cortex. Thus, property-based visual tasks are solved in a localized region in the brain by computing visual homogeneity.

In neonatology, diaper rash in premature babies under 37 weeks of amenorrhea is a frequent occurrence. The lack of definition and homogeneity of practices around this subject, and the call for tenders from the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region's inter-regional grouping for clinical research and innovation, motivated teams from the Annecy-Geneva hospital center to become promoters of a paramedical research project, Califesse. The study was divided into two stages: the first to create a visual scale, the second to carry out an epidemiological description of diaper rash and to propose a reference framework.

The burgeoning issue of micro/nanoplastics in ecosystems underscores an urgent need for advanced detection techniques. Herein, we introduce a novel SERS-based approach using a noble metal-free CuS@MoS heterojunction sensor, which has been meticulously engineered for enhanced sensitivity and stability in the detection of plastic contaminants. This semiconductor heterostructure harnesses the inherent surface plasmon resonance (SPR) effects of CuS and the efficient charge transfer facilitated by the built-in electric field at the CuS@MoS interface, rivaling the performance of noble-metal-based SERS sensors.

Adolescence is a key period for the maturation of cognitive control during which cortical circuitry is refined through processes such as synaptic pruning, but how these refinements modulate local functional dynamics to support cognition remains only partially characterized. Here, we used data from a longitudinal, adolescent cohort (N = 134 individuals ages 10-31 years, N = 202 total sessions) that completed MRI scans at ultra-high field (7 Tesla). We used resting state fMRI data to compute surface-based regional homogeneity (ReHo)-a measure of time-dependent correlations in fMRI activity between a vertex and its immediate neighbors-as an index of local functional connectivity across the cortex.

-Alkyl-galactonamides, which are small synthetic molecules derived from galactose, self-assemble to give fibrous hydrogels. These molecules are biocompatible and, in a previous study, the cell culture of human neural stem cells was performed for 7 days on a gel of -heptyl-D-galactonamide. With the objective of broadening the scope of these molecules as scaffolds for cell culture, in the present study, the culture of primary human dermal fibroblasts has been carried out on -nonyl-D-galactonamide hydrogels.

Bloodstain pattern analysis (BPA) is essential for reconstructing crime scenes using the shape and distribution of bloodstains. Luminol, which emits blue light in a chemiluminescent reaction with hemoglobin, is commonly used to detect latent blood. Artificial blood substitutes, designed for luminol reactivity or bloodstain pattern reproduction, are widely used in forensic experiments.
